Trump

Yep. I hope this is a wake-up for Labour that centrist policies don't represent working class people's real interests and will come back to haunt you. Trump is a rapist racist who called people cunts to their faces and he STILL got elected.
I don't think there really is a left-wing choice in the States. Maybe Sanders but he is also pretty ancient. Both American parties are right, just to differing degrees.

37% of Americans have a passport 86% in the UK, the vast majority of Americans couldn’t give a fuck about the rest of the world, it’s like a real life Truman Show.

Sorry, but that's such a reductive stat. If you live in the USA you can have any type of holiday you wish, skiing, beach, city, forest, mountain, desert, island, hot, cold, sunny, misty. The comparison to our island a small percentage of the size is just silly. Without wishing to be a dick your holidays aren't exactly expeditions in self exploration, you go to an all exclusive and sit by the pool. That's your thing and that's fine, but if you lived in Ohio, you'd do it in Florida, no passport required

What I’m trying to say really, why bother about the rest of the world while you have the good old USofA, an actual Truman Show.

Fear of the rest of the world is one of the core pillars of Trump's populism.

The average Trump voter may not care for the rest of the world, but they absolutely and unequivocally care about the rest of the world.

Apologies Alan, I know you don’t share those beliefs.

Britain isn't much less insular than America, look at Brexit. It just doesn't have the power to make it matter like they do. In many ways, we are the more pathetic as our superiority is delusional whereas there's is reality

No harm done, I'm tetchy over it but it's in no small part because I'm sickened by my peers, particularly my fellow Carolinians. At least we didn't elect a self-professed "Black Nazi" to be our Governor.

That's not your fault and I don't mean to lash out at you, apologies.

Hang on, Trump hasn't made us great again yet

This is the thinnest of silver linings, but Trump is projecting to get fewer votes this election than he did in 2020.

Make the hat the same shade of blue as Mega Man’s helmet and I’m in

Mega as a word is derived from ancient greek, so in that terminology it is ancient.

The last time England on its own was great they were all slapping up castles round wales, gleefully invading france and all had norman surnames.

Numbers so far mostly showing that white suburban men stayed home, and that was pretty much the difference.

Haven’t seen that, maybe it’s a small factor, but everywhere is reporting large to huge gains for Trump with minority voters and the 18-29 demographic.

Latinos of my wife's generation voted D for equal rights. Their sons and grandsons are voting R for lower taxes. I'm guessing the same applies to African Americans.

I grew up with a lot of immigrants from Mexico and various Central American countries. Most are hard working and many are religious. Trump does well with that group. Democrats have a major working class problem.

There are US tropes (religion/abortion to name two) that you simply can't tap into in the UK, it doesn't exist
Americans approve of abortions 2-1 according to national polls and it’s really not an issue for most.

The amount of people who would vote for Kamala if she was just against abortion or for Trump if he was for abortion is so small it’s essentially zero.

Kamala for some reason chose to focus on abortion as her most pronounced issue while her only stance on the economy was grocery price controls. Price controls. In America. How is that one of your very few stances you are going to advertise. She just ran a terrible campaign to be frank.

It's a difference of ~15 million votes not cast vs ~2 million traded.

Unfortunately, all of the good analysis is happening behind paywalls. Annoying but good work ain't free.

It’s not the suburban areas where votes are down. It’s urban areas. It’s a moot point though. All the swing states had higher turnouts.

Trump beat Biden’s 2020 total in PA, WI, GA, and likely AZ and NV. He’s going to essentially match it in Michigan.

NY is down about a million votes, Illinois down about a million. Lower voter turnout came in safe states not the swing states so that’s not why Kamala lost.
