Trump

I have no idea where you're getting your numbers and I can't ask you to pay to see mine so I'll leave it.

Suffice to say turnout was down relative to 2020.

Hahahahahaha I don’t need to pay to see the results of the election.
PA Biden 2020 3.459M
Trump 2024 3.468M with more to be reported.

You can go look at it in every swing state. If Kamala lost due to low voter turnout and not electorate shift Trump could not have beaten Biden’s 2020 total. Come to me next time I’ll tell you for free. The NYT shows you shift from 2020 by county for free and turnout by demographic is also free.

Okay man. The easy numbers are simple.

Trump is going to win this election with fewer votes than he got in 2020.

Hang on, Trump hasn't made us great again yet
Great is an abstract concept anyway, which is why he uses it, he can't fail to Make America Great Again because it doesn't mean anything. What you are is powerful, essentially you set Western Foreign and to a degree Economic policy. Yours is real, ours is imagined.

Poor joke on my part 🙂

Musk put $100m plus time into the Trump campaign and has made $28bn from the market reaction to his election
It was certainly a no brainier gamble for him.

The only silver lining for me to that sociopath getting back into power is at least my Tesla shares shot up.

So you've got an absolute anti health crackpot as Health Minister, a sex trafficer who has never practiced law as DA, a white supremacist/Christian nationalist Fox news host as Defence secretary, and the world's richest cunt telling people to fasten their belts tighter as because he's slashing spending.

It's not coincidence and it's not hyperbole to suggest that the plan is destroy society and the economy and to rebuild it in an even more libertarian image, like Truss had planned, or that lunatic in Argentina.

This is the platform they were elected in on though. Musk and Trump were very clear, the Dems pointed it out, but egg and fuel prices...

Mistake he made last time was that most of the people he appointe were when it came to the crunch more loyal to the US constitution then they were to him (even Pence on Jan 6), which prevented some of his schemes.

No such scruples on the crowd he is getting in now.

Part of me wants to sit back and watch the car crash unfold while thinking 'this is what you voted for, you dumb fucks'. However, part of me also knows that ultimately whatever chaos and destruction they cause will affect us too in some way (sadly, our American friends on here will suffer the most :( )

The wheel will turn, as it always does. Granted, that’s easy for me to say, as a mostly straight white man.

The whole thing has sparked a little bit of a fire under the asses of the handful of true leftists out here, but equally has shown how far behind the 8 ball we actually are. We’ll see if the fire can grow or if it’s snuffed out, either through apathy or repression.

I think the big problem electoral (here and there) is misinformation and the fact that as a strategy it lends itself far more naturally to the right. Misinformation is the warzone now, and we don't know how to play.

They can say that migrants are coming over, eating dogs and raping children and people can/do believe it, or even if they accept it's hyperbole, will be left at least feeling that they bring with them lots of unsavoury behaviour. It's sensational and it sticks.

What's the left's sensational message?

They say "that's nonsense" and it doesn't stick.
They talk of economic and social benefits and it doesn't stick.

I've seen suggestions that the left needs to join the misinformation fight, but what the fuck would leftist misinformation look like?

Migrants are breaking into people's houses and tidying up?

Leftism just doesn't lend itself to sensational, snappy messaging

I think Bernie found it, he just got fucked by our “liberal” establishment.

There is a not-insignificant cohort who voted Bernie and have now voted Trump. AOC was caught up in a bit of ruckus recently with New Yorkers who voted for Trump and her, despite the two being diametrically opposed in policy.

Trump is, at least partly, about rejecting the current political system. IMO people here have identified that things are broken and they’re willing to swallow a lot in service of “changing it up”.

That’s a bit of a simplification but suffice to say that both Trump and Sanders rose from the same environment of anger and apathy.

So, one of his economy advisors is a lunatic millionaire, his defence guy is a right wing nut job from Fox news and his health minister is a covid anti vaxxer. What could possibly go wrong.
