He'll try, but I can't see Trump getting his nomination through in 6 weeks even though it is a Republican Senate. Politically it would be a terrible look for McConnell to let it through so quickly and would damage the GOP and his position as Leader in the election.

They don’t care- the appeal of a lifetime appointment overrides any temporary electoral knock they might take. The Republicans would do ANYTHING for a guarantee of 6 conservative judges stacking the court for decades- that’s literally endgame for them.

The word from the Trump camp is that they’re going to move forwards with her replacement ASAP.

Yes, but it's 6 weeks until elections for the Senate, lose 4 seats and they don't get the confirmation. I can't see a lame duck Senate voting it through, they'll be enough legal objections to stall it, starting with McConnell refusing to pass Obama's choice through with only 8 months to go before an election being used as precedent

McConnell has said he will bring it to a vote, even though he did the exact opposite four years ago. Keeping republican power is the only morality he has. He can also do it after the election even if he loses. It is also potentially a plus for trump - he now has a 50-50 left v right issue to campaign on - something that could persuade some reluctant republicans to vote for him after all.
