Trump

From a poster on fb
"I can help Musk do the same..

Monday - claimed to have found 80 billion dollars of overspend in one budget line despite the full budget for that department being $75m. Actually turned out that the account read 8 million but the "hacker" who discovered it couldn't understand decimal places.

Tuesday - suggested paying each US citizen c$5k from the savings generated from all the 150+ year olds being paid SS. Except they aren't and this is a COBOL coding work around for missing data. No details of actual savings are shared. Does not have the authority to do this. Press Secretary forced to admit this.

Wednesday - attends CPAC with chainsaw. Nobody understands. Mic records him agreeing that the daily bill for his team is nearer $11m per day, than the stated 8m

Thursday - Is forced to re-employ c11k workers who he furloughed without authorisation as they turned out to be "unforeseen critical workers" (Coastguard, Air Traffic Control, Sanitation and Social Security)

Friday and Saturday - sends email giving workers 48 hours to justify jobs and send around 5 bullet points about what they have done in the last week. One assumes the summary above will be his submission"?

media reports suggest musks actions are not being seen in the greatest light by most americans, including trump supporters/voters. trumps popularity remains though.

My ex-Navy brother in law is one of those receiving all these missives from DOGE. Suffice to say that his superiors are beyond unimpressed with Musk. His agency, at least, has been told to ignore it (under the guise of national security, but still). That’s something, at least.

A lot of people voted for Trump, you can't shoot them all.

The opposition should be using this opportunity to oppose him where they can, but also think about what offer they're putting to the electorate themselves, and why so many rejected it last time.

They've already lost the personality war against him twice, I'd be thinking of mixing my approach up a bit if I were them

Do you think civil servants are working class?
They sell their labour, so yes. Although I get your point in how working class is typically defined.

But we are talking about all federal employees, so I'm assuming that includes people like Park Rangers, Coastguards, low level office workers etc etc. These people I would 100% define as working class. I don't think he's just targeting 'civil servants'.

But as I said, anyone who is in a position where they sell their labour to an employer is working class. They sure as heck don't own the means of production.

So you think the CEO of an organisation is working class as they generally don't own that company then, I guess. That's certainly a take.

Musk is going for civil servants he thinks are spending all their time doing jack shit, him and Trump both share that 80s USA managerial mindset, it's why they hate working from home.

He's not going after coastguards and expecting them to be checking their emails on the hour 😅

Yeh actually, they literally are. The mails have been sent out to all employees.

Are you working on the premise that they're actually trying to save money, or find fraud....by having a bunch of teenagers randomly fire people, and pretending they're doing an effective audit in hours or days inted of many months?

Musk and Trump are gutting government for guttings sake. It's an ideological choice and opinion that government is inherently evil and needs to be reduced to an absolute minimum, consequences be damned

I don't need a lecture on what Trump and Musk are doing, thanks.

My main reason for contributing to the thread was to respond to the nonsense statement that all government employees are somehow working class because it suits one of the Citizen Smith's on here

I stated what is one of the accepted sociological definitions of what working class means. The fact that it isn't how you define working class, or how working class is typically defined does not mean that it is a nonsense statement. But as usual, you wade in with your typical arrogance and trite childish insults. There's a reason most people on this forum think you're a dick.

Do you think civil servants are working class?
They are in this country, by and large. Generally speaking, with obviously some amount of variance, you could probably do exactly the same sort of job in the private sector and get paid double or even triple what the government pays.

HMRC, I’m sure there’s a few ragged arses like me who work in the tax office.
