Someone on twitter asked why Americans don’t build houses out of bricks/stone in places with wildfires, first reply was “we don’t, because you can’t fit electrical wiring or water pipes in stone houses” no amount of arguing will convince him he’s wrong.

We've been in late-stage Capitalism for so long that a huge swath of Americans genuinely can't imagine an alternative.

To your example, they assume (firmly) that there must be a genuine reason for wood housing in such areas. They would not truly accept that the actual answer is profit-margin at any (non-financial) cost. It's a cycle; buy "cheap" wooden house at an absurd markup, get insurance because it's required, house burns down, insurance reneges because it's a "high risk area", insurance takes federal funding to redistribute as a show of good faith. Rinse and repeat.

Everyone profits except for the homeowners. Funny, that.

I just think liberal/left leaning people (like you and me ) would consider some of the things Farage and Trump have said historically would rule them out of consideration for power and influence, but they really make little difference with lots of people. Calling them both 'fascist' almost backfired!

I think a lot of it comes down a majority of the population don’t want to listen to a full debate, their attention span is too short, so they can easily be influenced by sound bites. The use of the term woke is a classic example, what’s wrong with being tolerant and accepting that other people are different? The left don’t help themselves by often going out of their way to be provocative without realising it plays right into the hands of those who are anti-woke as it provides the aforementioned sound bites.

Transgender is another good example. Insisting men who have transitioned to become women can play in women’s sport just provides a stick to beat the whole transgender issue with.
