The Video Games Thread II - The Resurrection

Any of you lot on Xbox I have some new Turtles head headphones and I can here you breathing down my neck from a corner...

That's purely because you haven't played it enough. It's easy to pass it quickly in FIFA, and using the shoulder buttons means you can hit a lovely, long, raking pass across the pitch to set up attacks etc. The same with close control - once you've grasped the extra buttons, the control is spot on.

Far more variety in FIFA gameplay.

I simply cannot agree with that, regardless of what years game you are talking about, PES has always had more variety to the play and a greater chance of something random happening.

I gave last seasons FIFA a solid few months and it just didn't do it for me, if i tried to play counter attacking football i never got enough players forward so ended up having to try and do eveything with one man, which always seemed to result in being outpaced and then outpowered by a defender regardless of the players involved. Then if i tried to play a more conservative possession game, like i think FIFA forces you to do, it was impossible to move the ball around quick enough to break anyone down and any pass longer than 20 yards usually ended up being cut out because the ball was always moving too slowly. The only way i ever got goals on FIFA was lucky breaks where i managed to get a big enough head start over defenders for them to not catch me before i wanted to shoot, i gave it a damn good go but it just didn't do it for me, everytime i put it on it soon when from being fun to a chore.

My XBL name is "T3chvest" I believe, if you'd like to beat up on someone in FIFA.

I don't know about beating anybody up but I will add you. Expect a message from ECT Quirk wanting to be a fwend.

Xbox Live Gamertag is Bills Wolf if anyone wants to play:

Black Ops
Madden 12
And soon Battlefield 3.

Be warned I am sometimes in a party with some right twat goes by the tag of Boothjan...

Also be warned I am generally not all that good...and I sometimes say some bad words.

Don't think I'll be getting Fifa this year. I don't think it's improved enough to make me part with £40 and I get bored of it after a couple months anyway. If gets cheaper round christmas I might be tempted though.

Plenty BF3 beta videos are up on youtube now. It seems Caspian Border is playable in the PC Beta despite being on a password protected server and not entirely sure if it was meant to be playable so early. While not an entirely exciting video (so I won't embed it) it does show the scale of the map http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iO2hrjKeMY0. Some awesome looking screenshots I've seen on other forums too. Game just looks stunning. Can't wait till the Beta opens up for everyone tomorrow :D. However I've already seen 1 video showcasing the annoyance that was in BF2. Half the team stood around doing nothing waiting for the jet to spawn, 1 lucky person gets there first and crashes it before it's even off the runway.
Will be giving it a whirl on XBL tomorrow at some point, if anyone fancies a blast my tags Psychowolf38.

Lastly as I've been giving it a go over the last few days, I have to say http://www.onlive.co.uk/ really is amazing bit of tech. Free to register and you get free 30mins of most games on the service and all you need is a PC that can stream videos (basically any PC) and a decent internet (at least 5mb although it should work on 2mb and preferably not capped either as I've read it will get through something like 3-4gb an hour). IF you're not familiar with OnLive it's basically cloud gaming. The game itself is ran on servers elsewhere and is streamed to your PC. If your with BT you can get 3months free and the usage from onlive won't be counted towards your cap until 2012. Your first purchase is £1 too so I picked up AC:Brotherhood. It's not perfect, the quality of the video isn't as clear as your xbox etc and will drop in quality depending on your connection but it pretty much works. The tech can only get better and I'm really interested to see how good it will be in a couple years.

Fuck you, funny man. :icon_lol:

And it's true - he is utter shite at Black Ops. The term 'passenger' was invented for Toon.

As for the language - it'd make Irvine Welsh blush. The immense 'Aw, fuck you, sniper c**t' at a very high volume will live long in the memory.

I was going to add you, but after this warning count me out. My fragile virgin ears will bleed.

That bit in bold? Harsh, but nonetheless fair...In my defence I'm getting pretty old so my reactions aren't what they used to be.

And I think still have that sniper kill in my file share...

Forgive me if this information is already posted or so obvious that a child would know the answer, but how do you get to play the Beta of BF3? Is it just there on Xbox Live for anyone to try?

I think - though I'm not certain - that a beta is open to all, but not yet. Those who have a beta code already get the first week or so to themselves.

Pretty much. Those that bought the limited edition Medal of Honor last year got an early access code in the box for the BF3 beta. I think the lucky sods who also got on the alpha are also in the Beta too. Will at some point be up for everyone to download and play tomorrow until 10th Oct. No idea what time though. As far as I know it will just be operation Metro also. They've now re-passworded the caspian border servers on PC to stop people playing :(.

Oh dear. I've only just realised I actually had an early access key!. I thought you had to buy the limited edition but it turns out as long as I bought MOH on steam prior to July I got a key!. So annoyed :(.

I've got to try and pick up a copy of FIFA from somewhere on friday morning before i go and pick my parents, sister and her boyfriend up from the airport, apparently its so important for him to have it he needs to be able to play it as soon as he's back in the house.

Won the league, and only have the FA cup final to go before the season finishes. The top of the scoring table is Chicarito (Wolves), Doyle, O'Hara, and Gasm (my VP).

I have some badass youth squad players in the wing

I've also tried OnLive this week. Good stuff with the free demos, though I can't connect my 360 pad to my PC as I have no cable for it at the minute, so am having to struggle with keys and mouse.

Warhammer was shit!

Fifa has arrived, Shopto doing the business as usual.

Noooo just ordered fifa on Shopto but didn't change my delivery address to my new house and it has automatically sent it to the old address! Gutted!

Played my first game Wolves V Galway Utd game imported my settings from Fifa 11 so it was on World class. 1st half just could not get the ball they ended up with 67% possesion. Managed my first shot in the 85th minute ended up losing 8-7 on penalties aet.

If you give the ball away your in for a world of hurt at they just pass it around you, managed 1 tackle in the whole of the 1st half . It is however equally tough for them to get the ball off you, noticed better movement off the ball from players when you pass as they automatically look for a return ball.

Wolves are a mixed bag as usual, innacurate faces (same as last year) Karl Henry listed as an attacking midfielder, Stephen Ward right footed. Some of their stats have improved though.

Gonna have a cuppa and then see which denizens of Irish football can make us look like idiots next.
