The Video Games Thread II - The Resurrection

I also love how some of the Nordish Men sound just like Rainier Wolfcastle from The Simpsons. I keep expecting this to happen:

although you can get married in the game, it looks like I shot Langers best chance for a date ;)

I am now a fully fledged Bard. I have set up the burning of King Olaf and have nicked a few nibbles and wine along the way. I'm loving this thread with the amount of people on Skyrim, great to read on stories from others and helpful hints along the way.

My live tag is - ECT Quirk..

I haven't played this enough.

Dilemma - Skyrim or MW3 tonight? I won't have time for both!

Hopefully get some time on Skyrim tonight, it was a complete haze when I first played it. I didn't have a clue what was going on.

I've given up on skyrim - it looks quite good, but makes me want to be ill - think maybe I'm too old!

Had an enjoyable Skyrim session tonight- cleared the Shimmermist Cave which had me stuck for a while. The Dwarven Centurion and Falmer that you have to defeat at the end of it are tough until you figure out how to do it and then it's not so bad. Shame I died a bazillion times before I figured it out! Then I completed the quest to become a Companion. The cave you have to fight through to do that is HUGE and just completing that level took me about 2 hours! Hence why it is now 2am and I'm still here... Oh well, no work tomorrow anyway.

How did you defeat them Toon? I just conjured up a Flame Antranoch and let him and my companion do all the work while I hid!

Don't piss off giants. Especially if you haven't levelled up that much.

Ouch.

Anyway - had a lovely walk through the snow and enrolled at the college.

I used sneak to creep in to the final cave just enough so I could see the Falmer, shot him with my bow, dodged back along the tunnel a bit and kept doing that until the Falmer was dead first. Then when I attacked the Centurion I ran back into the tunnel and he's too big to follow, so I stayed in the tunnel shooting him with my bow (I had Lydia helping too) whilst he was unable to get to me! I got them both (eventually) without taking a single hit!

One of my favourite moments of the game so far was seeing 2 giants battling a mammoth whilst a dragon flew around overhead. I just stood and watched, none of them were taking the slightest bit of interest in me, they were just getting on with their own thing. Amazing!

I've gone past the 6 hour mark and haven't even come close to scratching the surface. I don't think I've encountered any of the quests mentioned over the past few pages.

Not that it's a problem of course - I've quite enjoyed wandering around, testing out combat on a few defenceless creatures (and the occasional bandit) and just marvelling at the scenery.

I'm wary about heading into big combat sections until I've levelled up some more, as I'm only on level 7.

I think at Level 7 you should be able to handle some of the early quests. If you've got a Bounty, do one of those and you'll get quite a few XP. Also, do as much stuff like Smithing and Sneaking as you can, as doing those things adds to your XP rapidly.

What combat style does everyone favour? One-handed, two-handed, archery, or magic? I've only just started getting the best out of using magic myself. I've been mainly archery and one-handed. I can't get the hang of the two-handed weapons at all.

Flame on the left hand, sword with some wicked ice effect on the right.

Are mammoths tricky to kill as well? I need to get a mammoth tusk for a mini task and presume it has to be from a live one!

I can't get near the fuckers because of the stupid giants.
