The Video Games Thread II - The Resurrection

Tesco usually throw FIFA on offer for its release date, they tend to only have about 15 copies in stock in each store though, i went last year to the 24 hour one nearby at about 1.30am as i was still awake and they said they hadn't had any delivered yet. My sisters boyfriend then went at about 5.30am on his way to work and they told him they'd sold out.

I can't remember what I paid, but I remember getting FIFA 10 for around £25. All the supermarkets went crazy trying to outdo each other.

Yeah, I paid £27 for FIFA 10. I doubt the same will happen this year as the deals for FIFA 11 were nowhere near as mad.

They might do a sub-£30 price if you also buy £50+ of shopping - I think Sainsburys did that last year.

I reckon i could edge a few games for free from Sainsbury's with all the Nectar points saved up from my dads company's fuel bill, why have i not thought of this before?!

It's going to be an expensive week, with F1 2011 coming out 7 days before. Considering trading both in now to aid trade in value but they're pretty much the only games I keep playing.

My mate and his nephew played it to death in co-op. Looks decent but the levels are way too vast for my liking.

Then you'll like it IMO.

MW3 footage.

Two things really, REALLY fuck me off about it.

1. A ridiculous amount of quick scoping. FFS, it's the wankiest way to get a kill. WHY can't they fix this extremely fixable problem?!
2. Shotgun range. They look way too powerful.

These two things were massive problems of MW2 that really hampered my enjoyment of the game. It seems that rather than fixing them, they're keeping them in as they'd rather agree with the majority of tossers that use these weapons as opposed to those who think they're unrealistic, souped up guns favoured by those unable to use skill.

Very disappointed about this. I know there are still 2 months til it comes out, but I'd be amazed if they toned down either.

Otherwise, it just looks like MW2 part 2 with very little noticeable improvement (with the exception of getting killstreak rewards for point scoring which is a great move).

I'm playing Driver at the moment and the online Racing will send your dick hard..

I won't be buying MW3 based on what I've seen. It just looks more of exactly the same with a slightly slicker graphical interface. They're still stacking killstreaks as well.

BF3 still looks too awesome to top at the minute. I've still got wood from that fighter plane trailer.

From everything I've seen MW3 just looks like an expensive add-on to MW2. The things that were wrong with MW2 are still there in MW3. There's no way I'll be getting it as MW2 was a steaming pile of utter turd. Battlefield 3 looks like a far superior game in just about every conceivable aspect (apart from marketing and money making ability) and is definitely a game for those that like to think rather than simply play a 'Hollywoodised' version of what a FPS should be. BF3>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>MW3. I don't think I even put enough > symbols in there to convey the total contempt with which I view MW3.

Sadly, Toon I have to agree with you slightly. Though I don't dislike MW2 as much as you do, I do see why you don't like it. Black Ops is considerably better in every aspect. MW3 just looks like the same game to me, and the fact that the video above shows 2 absolute pet hates of mine - quick scopers and overpowered shotguns - doesn't bear well for when I have to make my decision.

In fact, it may have made my mind up to get BF3 and just give a bloody good go. I just hope we have enough people to make a decent squad. The trailers I've seen for BF3 piss all over anything I've seen from MW3. And it also looks like they're trying new things with the planes etc - it does look brilliant. And graphically, it's tons better.

I shall be online with BF3 a fair bit once I've done the single player game. A lad I work with will be on it non-stop as well, he's quite decent.

Yeah, I always make sure I get through the single player first. Will happily team up on MP once I have.

I have heard from someone who says that they were an alpha tester for BF3 (could be true, could be bull, I don't know for sure) that in his words "It is going to be an epic, epic game. Best game I've ever tested by miles". Take that any way you like, but it looks to me that BF3 is just a more 'grown-up' game than MW3, which seems to be designed much more with kids in mind, ie all about fast reactions, glitz and 'Hollywood' moments. BF3 looks like a game for the more intelligent gamer and if you like your multiplayer games to really be about playing as a team or squad it should be a no-brainer as to which of the games you play.

I've been off work this week, and inbetween all the jobs the wife has given me, I've been playing God of War on my PS3.

I had the GOW Collection and GOW3, and didn't want to play the latest one til I'd finished the first two. Well, I'm half way through GOW3 now and it's a right blast. Totally brainless button bashing mega-combo bloody fun. And I have never seen such utterly ridiculously HUGE set pieces in a game, i.e. bosses and scenery. They are absolutely massive, and they come at you all the time.

It's one of the most visually impressive games I have ever played and whilst the button mashing aspect is a bit brainless, the moves you can pull off and sheer variety of gory finishing moves mean even those parts are bloody good fun.

It's also a typical 'oh I'll just play a bit longer - just until the next save point' game.

Really enjoying it!

And it's been Halo Reach today.

Well CoD - that is how you do a campaign mode. Even though Halo games have tons and tons of multiplayer options, it has always been a far better single player mode. It's very good indeed.
