The Transfer Thread 2019/20 - everything not Wolves

Great shout on Bergkamp.

What I liked with him as well was that he wasn't a flake. He could be a nasty piece of work when he needed to be.

Such a genius in terms of creativity. Henry's best years were because of Bergkamp and Pires. I mean a brilliant striker in his own right, but you've got those two making the bullets? Yes please.

I'll tell you how good Luka Modric is.

He beats this guy. Who is a fucking pimp.

I shouldn't get so excited about football this much when I'm 38, really. Ah well.

Bergkamp v Argentina at France 98 was sublime, he made that goal look effortless.

Great goal. Great pass too. Frank de Boer?

Mind you, this is how football has moved on in 20 years. I reckon Rui saves that, or there is no shot. Carlos Roa is doing nothing there.

Close to being if not my favourite goal that. Frank De Boer with the ball and that’s Ayala Bergkamp makes looks really average. Such a sublime footballer.

Now I'll give you that it's filth. But I'd have backed myself to merk Nikos Dabizas in 2002.

First touch? Batigol. The man could finish anything from anywhere without even controlling the fucking thing. And when he did control it it was unreal.

Had a mate at uni who was an Arsenal fan. Went back for all their games. They played Fiorentina at home (well, Wembley). He said Batistuta's warm up was just battering into the top corner all the time. Don't run, don't warm up the keeper, no. This is the important shit.

Lo and behold:

Targett to Villa for £14m+ add ons. From a very low bar of Taylor he improves them at left back, but it's a signing of a side looking to stay up rather than kicking on imv

That's a hell of a lot of money for very little. Not even half the player Jonny is for example.

Villa falling into the fatal error of signing quantities of players instead of quality.

Their season will be beating us (trying to...)

Thing is they badly needed to sign quantity. It's just they're wasting large chunks of their budget on crap and still need to sign 4-5 more in key positions if they want to be competitive.

It's beginning to look like they are going to have to splurge maybe £150m to solve the holes in their squad. And everybody knows their owners are loaded and so is charging absolute premium for any player.

It's their own fault. Stock a squad with ancient players and loanees who you either can't sign or will cost silly amounts to do so and this is where you end up.
