The Transfer Thread 2019/20 - everything not Wolves

It's their own fault. Stock a squad with ancient players and loanees who you either can't sign or will cost silly amounts to do so and this is where you end up.
It's all Steve Bruce's fault you mean.

Always the same with him.

I'm waiting for his bid for Ahmed Elmohamady. Nine years in English football, three clubs and Bruce is literally the only manager who has ever signed him.

Some goon on VillaTalk is bemoaning the signing (which he should) but then said "we could get Ruben Vinagre for that price".

Yes. of course you could. Dickhead.

Che Adams to Southampton for £15m, shame I wanted him down here. They have effectively swapped a reserve left back for their first choice forward today. Very good business

Villa’s best centre half pairing from last season have gone back to parent clubs, pretty sure Tuanzabe will be staying at Utd.
I assume Villa will have first choice on Mings unless he’s still wanted at Bournemouth.

Yeah, looks like United want to give him a go (he is nowhere near the standard they should be using but he is at least not Phil Jones or Marcos Rojo, while Chris Smalling's career could genuinely be ruined by VAR)

Of course, spunking a vast sum on Targett isn't going to make Bournemouth up the price for Mings at all. No Sir.

Especially as Villa have gone in for a second bid for Webster of over £20m, and that has been rejected out of hand as well.

Wouldn't surprise me to see them use him in the Far East then loan him to Villa just before the deadline. I think Villa will start the season with the two they ended the last one with.

Having spent a fortune on Mings who Bournemouth don't consider fit for top flight purpose. All good.

You know, if I had about £35m to spend on improving my defence, I would not be thinking of Matt Targett and Adam Webster.

Hmmmm

Nope, they would not be on my list of targets either. Webster is decent enough but the price is huge, and Targett is absolutely bog standard at best. Southampton have absolutely fleeced them, especially as it gets them Che Adams.

Villa fans think this is ACE because it weakens Blues. Big fucking deal. It massively strengthens a relegation rival. That's key, rather than laughing in the direction of St Andrews.

We spent less than that on Boly and Jonny.

Our entire back five (if we class it as that) didn't cost £35m. Even if you chuck in Vinagre and Saiss and make it everyone who started a league game for us in defence last season.

Saints won't be near the bottom next season. Their form under Hasenhüttl was close to what we produced over the same period.

Mings is an interesting one. I don't think Bournemouth played him in the middle of a back 4, but he was very impressive there for Villa. If you judged him purely on his time at Villa you'd say he'll make the step up comfortably, I thought he was more impressive for Villa than Mepham was at Brentford and Bournemouth have both to play the same position.

He has history though of not being at the required level previously, is injury prone and has a penchant for putting his feet on people's faces

There's dealing with Billy Sharp and dealing with Diogo Jota (which he was laughable at a few months ago).

They're building a damn good team for 2020/21 in the Championship at the moment.

I agree. Saints could well be going places under Hassenhuttl. I wouldn't be surprised to see them in 9th maybe.

Watford sign Criag Dawson from WBA for £5.5m

Looks like the transfer wheels have started turning- a lot of teams were holding back so they could take advantage of the relaxed wage restrictions in place from today.
