I think the champion's league final has pretty much doubled the price everybody was gonna charge Liverpool for a keeper

and to follow that up - "Liverpool have agreed a fee of about £66.8m for Roma goalkeeper Alisson"

Almost double how much City paid for Ederson, crazy. Ederson is much better.

It's all relative. They are in desperate need of a keeper, it's worth overpaying if it cures their issues. It's still only about half of what they got for Coutinho.

Just doesn't feel like value for money, I've only got the World Cup to judge him on but he didn't really impress there and you'd think there'd be alternatives available at that price, I wouldn't say he stood out as being any better than Butland on those performances and you know he'll be available at a much lower cost.

£30m per glove for Butland so about the same.

Same opinion here. Saw him in some of the CL games where I thought he was average, watched him at a friendly at Anfield where he didn't have that much to do but his distribution was horrendous and he flapped at a couple of rubbish crosses, then the World Cup where it was the same. You would think Butland would be available for much cheaper, if they really want to pay stupidly over the odds might as well push the boat out for Oblak in my opinion.

I've just found this compilation of his best saves that show off his 'crazy reflexes' but with the exception of one or two you'd expect most goalkeepers of about Championship level to be saving them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLt8KyfYSYc

Obviously it's no real indication of how good he is as crap keepers can have impressive highlight reels if you look at the saves without context (Lonergan) but you'd have to question how seriously he is being challenged based on that, will be interesting to see how he does at the very least.

Problem paying that much for him is if he has a bad time of it no-one will pay even half that if they need to get rid of him.

It is about investing wisely. Buying players like Neves at £15million (approx), rather than players like Allisson at £66mill.

Yeah, I would love to think we could build a title-winning squad that way, and perhaps we'll break the mould, but even Arsenal under Wenger, whom I've never regarded as especially profligate, shelled out £100m for Aubameyang and Lacazette. Of course we don't want to buy expensive rubbish, but quality costs too. That said, Tottenham have done OK without breaking the bank, relatively speaking (although their last league championship was only two years more recent than ours).

Alisson single-handedly won Roma UCL qualification last season. Will his skill set translate to Liverpool? I don't know. I still think they'd need a truly classy CB before I'd be comfortable with them.

Stupid , stupid money for a decent keeper, but he is no Buffon in his prime. Pickford looked expensive last year but that looks far better value than this at first glance. If Liverpool were paying 60 million plus for the following then fair enough
1. Courtois
2. De Gea

They would have been better paying 30 million for Butland.

Equally you could argue that if Liverpool had had Allison last season they would have won the champions league, that's worth £60m

Leicester with a £12m bid for Liverpool Keeper Danny Ward

I like Ward but he's 25 and not even made 100 senior appearances yet. Doesn't have 50 league appearances in English football. It's a huge fee considering his background to date.

Really he should have left Liverpool a year ago when it was clear he was still third in line.

Adam Rooney gives up Europa League/Scottish Premiership football with Aberdeen to sign for Conference side, Salford City.
