Huyton? Ugh.

Exactly, the area doesn't look too bad when i checked it out on Google but they apparently had quite a bit of trouble with another project in the area earlier this year, certainly one site visit that i wont want to be taking too much time over.

Are they paying you mileage? I make a tidy little sum out of my 45p a mile. Back and forth to Carlisle twice last week and sellafield the week before. Cherrrrrrchinggggg.

I wont get anything for it, i'm borrowing a works car to go though so it's not going to cost me anything in fuel, it'll pass best part of a days work with the travelling but the destination and time of year reduces the appeal.

Ah, yeah that's a bummer. All the other companies I have worked for had a similar arrangement. I've never been paid mileage before.

Anyway, good that they are keeping you busy. Sounds like its going well so far.

Lucky you! I've got the joy of driving to Huyton and St. Helens on my own to look at a couple of muddy fields on Thursday, was hoping for a nice quiet week in the warm office leading into Christmas considering the next project i've got to complete isn't due until the 16th of January. Still, think my Dad might be up at work in Skelmersdale at the end of the week so i could have lunch with him if the timing is right.

Your post just bought back some memories. When I lived in London I always used to have lunch with my Dad at a cafe by New Scotland Yard, when he was working in the area. That is all.

Yeah, I'm enjoying it so far, been more involved than I expected to be and I feel like I've picked up quite a lot already. Still a lot left to learn though before I could truly be left to sort things out completely unassisted but I could see myself doing this sort of thing for a good while.

If you're going on your own, then you should get some shit hot music LOUD in the player to brighten up the journey.

About 10 hours of shopping lies ahead today, so does a stop at Slippery Rock Brewery for a few cold ones and lunch . Perfect :)

10 hours of shopping is my idea of hell.

Its ok when you have a plan, a list , and you know exactly what you are going for. Out for 7, 5 hours shop before lunch, then a 2 hour lunch and Ale tasting at the Brewery, and its the next 5 hours which is the more fun !!

It really isn't. Plan or not, you have to negotiate the general public and go into shops, depleting the funds in your bank as you go.

Hate it.

Its only once a year :) !

I think 2 hours would probably be my limit for a shopping trip. Even if I had a plan and I could find all the items I wanted without wandering around like a lost child, there's only so much of the ignorant, overweight, slow, rude, loud and stinky general public and only so much of the inept, terse, blasé and apathetic customer service I can take before I need to get out of there!

Looking forward to my day out.
A day in Dublin, carving single mindedly through the mindless crowds with my short list of presents to buy, stop into some handy pub, get a nice pie lunch + 2 pints of something lovely, then a bit more shopping soak in the atmosphere, then home to pour myself a fragrant peated whiskey and wrap up the goodies in front of a big fire.

Coming shortly...
