The Things You Are HAPPY About Thread.

I’m surprised it’s inappropriate behaviour towards young women, I’d have thought he was a fan of that Swiss football team young boys

Just booked a luxury cottage for a week in Devon over Christmas for next year. We’ve meant to do it for years but the time is now right.

The cottage is 3 minutes walk from the beach so it’s a dog walk Christmas morning. Then back to the hot tub to warm up!

We are looking forward to it already 👍😁

After the hustle and bustle of Christmas, a day of relaxing watching the darts and football. A simple beans on toast tea and if I have a drink for every goal Liverpool score I could be pissed by 4.45😜

Happy, I think. Listening to this exact same radio show is how I also found out the aphantasia existed and that I had it. Very random, but it helps to realise I’m one of many.

My first thought was that must be a weird condition to have, as conjuring mental images for me is no problem. If I am playing or studying chess I can mentally move the pieces and see the board in a few moves time in my head and that just seems totally natural.

Then I thought about my deafness. Born with only one working ear so I have never known any different. It doesn't feel like I am missing out because I have no concept of stereo, apart from the fact that I cannot tell the direction a sound is coming from.

Yeah, I'm the same, I didn't know the official term for it until now though. When a character in a book pictured something in their minds eye I used to think it was some weird literary trope.

I've also got a kind of synesthesia which is hard to explain to people as because I don't have a minds eye, I don't 'see' the colours, I feel them.

It’s very frustrating at times, can’t explain it too.

There’s a subreddit on aphantasia that is really good on it.

I wish I had known about it during school, it explains so much about which subjects I struggled with and which ones I succeeded in. I used to get so frustrated at how easily other people took to creative tasks.

Interestingly, I was talking to a friend recently who described how when she thinks of words and numbers they appear spatially around her. She said if she 'thinks' the alphabet the 'A' appears directly Infront of her and as she progresses through it the letters 'feed' Infront of her from left to right. Totally bizarre.

It’s weird, obviously always had it so can’t really understand how it has affected me over the years. I do find it a little sad that I can’t picture any memories.

It does explain how I continually get lost in office building / car parks. The fact you can beep and flash cars from an app now is an absolute god send.

Yeah, things like not being able to picture my mum's face are a little sad. I'm sat next to my partner now though and if I stared at her and then closed my eyes I wouldn't be able to picture her face even though it's the last thing I looked at so it's not like I've lost anything in that sense, I've never been able to do it 🤣. I still have the 'feeling' of the memories for lack of a better word.

spent time over Christmas and done a horoscope for all of you, feel free to refer to it over the coming year and see how accurate it is IMG_3545.jpeg

When on my walk up the lane today I bumped into my old PE teacher who I really liked and respected at school, he was a bit of a local footballing legend, top striker for Bridgnorth Town in the 70s and 80s.

Anyway, he complimented me on the pace I was walking at and joked that he wouldn't be able to keep up with me. Silly but put a real spring in my step 😆

Could go in the fitness thread, but here is as good as anywhere:
1st weekend of October I quietly decided to have a go at trying to not smoke. Have smoked for over 35 years & while never a heavy smoker, it has been an every day habit for a long time. I also realised all the "I'm not an addict" tropes I came out with (can give up when I want, it's a choice blah blah).
So, went cold turkey.

Quite pleased that I've gone 3 months without cracking. Noticed some small improvements already in my physical health, sense of smell & taste too. My sleep is better also. Was a little surprised it wasn't a bit harder tbh - after the first couple of days challenging the habit, it was...fine.

Small targets at first, go a day without, go 2 days without, get to the weekend, do a full week etc. I actually didn't realise I'd passed 3 months!

Thats good going mate. Not a smoker myself but know a few and they all found it tough to give up. My best mate has tried multiple times. Over recent years he's had lung related issues and Doc told him he really needed to stop, he tried again but just cant, he's currently vaping which has helped and he does feel better.

Smoked about 20 a day for 25 years, tried to give up about 5 years ago but failed, started vaping and havent had a fag for 18 months. Cut gown on niccotene slowly.
Well done!

Richard keys getting a right load of stick yesterday for making a tribute tweet about Terry Yorath all about how Richard Keys got Gabby her first job in sports media.
He’s doubled down on it today saying he was misquoted then makes it all about how Richard Keys would do anything for Terrys family and expect no thanks, he’s being called out about that tweet now
