The Second Club Thread

Good luck Alan.

I’ve just seen that the managerial genius of Phil Neville strikes again. Fluked his way into the MLS play offs as a wild card and then lost 5-0 at home FFS 🤣
You hear about all the drama there?

Game should have been in Vancouver, but the owners of BC Place already rented it out for a Motocross event, so the match couldn’t be played there.

Phil Neville pre-match: “I think God must be a Timbers fan.”

[Vancouver manager] Vanni Sartini post-match: “I don’t believe in God.”

Went about as badly as possible! Lost 0-2 and Pep Biel got himself a red in stoppage time so he’s suspended for the win-or-die match at BofA. That’s a really bad omen as he’s been the addition that has knit our attack together (though he didn’t do a whole lot beyond the red last night, it must be said).

Orlando are probably the better team on paper but still disappointing given the form we and they had been in prior to the match.

A 4-2 loss at Leipzig in the cup. Always likely to be a write off tbh.

I cannot describe how this felt in real time.

Shout outs to Ludogorets for letting Kristijan leave. He'll be a local legend now. Also, Pat's penalty. 😍

We're on to a winner-take-all match 3, to be played on my birthday for extra drama.

I know it sounds sacrilegious, but I think it's actually working spectacularly. There was never a moment last night where either side looked happy to go to PKs, and that's generally been the vibe across the league so far.

Can easily imagine Orlando coming into the "second leg" up 2-0 on aggregate and just shithousing for 90'. That's no fun!

How come it went to pens and a 3rd match? Does the aggregate score not count?
The answer to your question lies in the teams owners and MLS Commissioner Don Garber coming up with more bullshit to make more money. 3 match play offs are complete and utter nonsense. It should be best of home and away. It used to be.

So this game in Charlotte ended as a draw after Orlando won 2-0 at their place. But because the US just has to have a winner, it went to pens and this farce plays on next Saturday. I used to enjoy MLS footy but b/s like this turned me off years ago. 34 games in a season counts for fuck all. All about a knock out contest in America and this is why the US cannot develop young talent.

Please, educate yourself.

A 2-0 win at Hoffenheim yesterday. Could have done without Kiel winning but Bochum got thumped 7-2 at Frankfurt, they already look doomed to take one of the relegation spots.

Bayern at home next, can we repeat the miracle of 2002? The answer is no. But Gladbach and Kiel up after that, so more chances for points.

I've interviewed Garber more than once. I've met several clubs owners and mgt teams.
What do you actually know about it? You get a team in MLS and you think you know all about it?

Sorry, as per what's been set out on the forum rules, attack the post not the poster if you disagree. This is exactly the type of post that puts many off being active on this forum.

Oh, I see. So it's OK for him to say educate yourself to me. Isn't that attacking the poster?

Wouldn’t be a miracle if you expected it!

You can call me an idiot in seven days. 😂

A 1-0 defeat to Bayern, we're not getting blown away which is something.

Bochum got an unexpected point against Leverkusen but are still winless and marooned at the bottom, while Kiel lost at Bremen. Could do with Hoffenheim losing at Augsburg this afternoon while Heidenheim play Wolfsburg, so they can't both pull away today.
