The Rugby Thread

Glad you had a great time. Sad about the loss, but it was a great second half.

You played lovely rugby today Pad, it seemed like whenever we put a nice try together, Wales went up the other and crossed in similar fashion. Definitely gave us a scare today. Your defence was brilliant 1st half, we spent 3 mins camped out on your try line at the end of the 1st half, but the Welsh defence was immense. That late try for us in the 1st half was the turning point IMO, and at a critical time too.

2nd half we needed to come out fighting and we did, we simply out-muscled you. Wales played lovely ball out wide and strung together some lovely passes, but our tactics were spot on. I was there with a girl from work who had never been to a rugby match before. At the end of the 1st half, we got that pen deep in our half - I said to her, we will kick for the corner, win the line-out and drive over from there, and that was pretty much what happened.

Honestly - a six nations day out is one of the best you can spend, and many of my Welsh mates tell me that Wales in Dublin is the best of the lot. One day I will get the chance to experience it...

absolute garbage from England today outplayed in every department Scotland deserved everything

Martin Johnson summed it up when he said, you can't just turn up and expect to win at this level.

As I said previously, I'm concerned about Eddie Jones and his selections and we don't seem to have made any progress over the last 12 months.

I watched the Ireland v Wales match which was superb entertainment, and then came Scotland v England.

Scotland were really up for the game and executed their plans enthusiastically, and England, as a whole, let them do what they wanted. The breakdown was so one-sided it was embarrassing, the kicking out of hand from England was awful (you can't play without the ball, so why keep kicking it away?) and Englands' back-line (Watson, Brown and May) was poor.

I don't expect England to win every game, but I do expect them to turn up and play rugby, not arrogantly expect the other team to roll over.

Well played Scotland, enjoy your victory, you deserved it. England, you were better in the 2nd half but it was far too late and you deserved to lose the match on your overall performance.

Ireland and Leinster forward Jamie Heaslip has announced his retirement from rugby following a long-term back injury.

A loss to rugby.

Gavin Hastings is a knob and should keep his trap shut. He lets his own side down with his inane, thoughtless comments.

While that is true, Eddie Jones doesn't exactly help his cause with some of stuff he spouts either (not to condone the shit he has received which is bang out of order)

Worse these cretins would get is a public order offence at worse.
There’s lots of managers coaches etc in the sporting world who open their mouth. A lot of the it’s to try and gain psychological advantage. If people can’t see that they are incredibly nieve.

Oh totally agreed. I just actually think EJ quite enjoyed painting himself as the pantomime villain in the eyes of the other six nations, which then is exacerbated for Wales and Scotland the ABE element. Always likely to result in some stick, but this has been completely OTT and not acceptable.

Banter and a joke is fine and EJ would probably just take it in good spirits. In fairness Scottish rugby have condemned the behaviour.
Also EJ and the England side took the defeat on Saturday in a dignified manner.

Again I find myself agreeing with you!

I thought EJ's reaction to the result was very dignified. Some discussion of the shortcomings of his team but more than happy to praise an opposition that he admitted were simply far too good on the day. I am not an EJ fan, it sort of reminded me of grudgingly respecting Colin's kind comments to us after we dicked Sheffield United in Cardiff. But fair play to him.

And the opposite to the idiotic Scottish fans involved in this. If it were Welsh fans I would be condemning just as strongly. This has no place in rugby, there is banter, but there are lines that must not be crossed.

England team to play France: 15 Anthony Watson, 14 Jonny May, 13 Ben Te'o, 12 Owen Farrell, 11 Elliot Daly, 10 George Ford, 9 Danny Care; 1 Mako Vunipola, 2 Jamie George, 3 Dan Cole, 4 Joe Launchbury, 5 Maro Itoje, 6 Courtney Lawes, 7 Chris Robshaw, 8 Nathan Hughes

Replacements: 16 Luke Cowan-Dickie, 17 Joe Marler, 18 Kyle Sinckler, 19 James Haskell, 20 Sam Simmonds, 21 Richard Wigglesworth, 22 Jonathan Joseph, 23 Mike Brown.

Underhill & Knowle out of the 6N with injuries and Eddie drops Brown and Joseph to the bench while Daly and Te'o come in.

Scotland should be beating Ireland but have contrived somehow to be a good distance behind.

Ireland's title, and Wales have a decent chance of second.

Nice to see Eddie Jones being forced to apologise for calling one "scummy" and the other "a shit little place"
