The R.I.P. Thread

Harry Leslie Smith has passed away at the age of 95. What a top man he was.

Oh that is sad though a great innings.

I read of him recently standing up to knuckledraggers on social media by reeling off his wartime achievements.

One of the last of a golden generation that gave us so much but he also truly embraced the modern age.

RIP Sir :icon_sad:

I'd only just started to follow him on Twitter after seeing this incident.

Baroness Trumpington - Aged 96. Famous for being very funny and lobbing the Vs in the House Of Lords on a semi regular basis.

Sorry to read of your news Sniffer. How old was he? RIP Fred.

Sad news Sir

I lost two last year and got sent this.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I really hope its true.

Thanks for the kind words, Fred was 10.

He was exercising normally up to a week or so ago when suddenly he started to struggle to get up. Took him to the vets where he was given pain killers and was booked in for an x-ray this week with the thought that it was arthritis related. Last Friday night he couldn't get up at all and I stayed up with him with the knowledge of what was likely to happen the next day.

He looked young right to the very end and people couldn't believe his age when they enquired about him on walks. So mild mannered, never growled, would let me or the kids take anything off of him and would sit and wait for you to verbally tell him to eat his dinner. He'll be sorely missed.

So sorry for your loss mate, I was heartbroken when I had to make a humane decision a few years ago, at least the pain is over for him :(
