The R.I.P. Thread

I wasn't disputing the morals of it, it's just when the old chestnut of costs rears its head.

Ian Brady should not be included in this thread as the last thing anyone should be wishing for this evil shit, is for him to 'Rest In Peace'.

If you doubt what I am saying then just look at the details of his terrible crimes against the children he tortured and killed, and the subsequent agonies he subjected their families to.

As you will see if you read it nobody has. The whole thing has been "good riddance" for crying out loud.

Yeah let's just pop over to another thread and set up the shrine that everyone is demanding :spaz:

I wasn't accusing anyone of anything but I was disappointed that this man's death had even been mentioned on this thread. Just don't give the oxygen of publicity to him or his evil.

I know from the news that he has died, I don't want to see it on our RIP thread, and all the inappropriate conversations it will spawn. Sorry if you don't like what I'm saying, but it's how I feel.

Sorry but that is a complete over reaction borne entirely from not reading any of the posts, ALL of which have been anti-Brady.

I understand that Paddy, and I have read all the posts. I see they are all anti-Brady but that isn't my point. I feel that the posts should not have been made on a thread where people show their respects to those that have died, i.e. The RIP thread.

The fact that Brady has died is newsworthy for some, so perhaps should have been put in a thread that reflects that, perhaps Current Affairs?

Stop talking about him Dino and he'll be replaced on here by someone a bit less evil very soon, I'm sure, and then he'll be consigned to the history books where he belongs.

We could start a 'glad they're dead' thread?

I agree, SLA, and will personally say no more, just deal with my disappointment, as I initially stated, that he was mentioned on this thread in the first place.

He was mentioned the page before your comment. Just saying it had already flipped to yesterday's chip paper and there hadn't been a comment for over 2 hours.

Keeping schtum would have actually suited your cause rather better.

RIP in the thread title is just shorthand for 'Someone (in)famous has kicked the bucket'. You're reading far too much into it.

THM would have blamed the EU.

Chatting to a group of colleagues yesterday, and conversation turned to mentioning that Brady was dead.
One person in the group clearly wasn't aware, and her ears perked up. She asked "is he dead?" When told he was, she cried "YESSSS!"
Initially we all thought it was an over-reaction, or a celebration. However when asked why the response, she said "he's on my list".
Further discussion elicited that this person (and a few friends) have a list of approx 20 "celebs" each, who they think won't survive the year.
I've spent a day wondering whether this post should appear in the prediction league subsection...

We used to have a celebrity stiffs league at work. You had to pick someone from a number of categories and then a double points captain. I was let down by Ronnie Biggs. Looking back not the most tasteful venture I've been involved in.

I have been let down by Clint Eastwood and prince Phillip for years in the dead pool

Never bet on a royal to kick the bucket, it's not exactly a hard life plus they have private medical car available instantly.

In discussing this with colleagues, have found another group with a list of "who's the next celeb to be arrested cos they're a paedo".
It appears the group are arguing, as one is claiming she won, as she had cliff richard. The others dispute this. I started to say it depends exactly on the nature of the question, but ended up beating a hasty retreat!
