The Premier League Thread - 2018/19

Hennessey did play a blinder against Fulham though to be fair, they could have scored a few and had a penalty appeal wrongly turned down.

Cardiff
Huddersfield
Newcastle
Southampton
Fulham
Burnley

These all look absolutely terrible so far. They all deserve to go down on the showings to date. I'd still say it's Cardiff + Huddersfield + one other but they're all shocking. Fulham are the best at actually trying to score now and then, they are also genuinely on course to concede over 100 goals at the moment.

That's without even mentioning Palace who are going to get well into November with a mighty two goals at home (both penalties) and West Ham who have won 2 out of 10.

Some truly dreadful sides. Agree that Cardiff & Huddersfield will go, said these 2 before a ball was kicked. Fulham or Newcastle will go with them I'd think. Southampton should be ok, they look solid enough defensively which should get them through. It won't be pretty though.

I'd say 13th & lower currently all look poor (so would add palace and west ham to your list). West Ham fluctuate excessively, they have arnautovic and are able to create goals, but equally look really suspect, and have the potential to implode badly. Can see them getting a couple of tonkings this season.

For me cardiff are certs do drop. I'm really struggling to see newcastle turn it around to be honest. I'd like to see southampton drop because hughes is a petulent twat.

Cardiff have played the Top 5 and are outside the relegation zone so have the chance between now and Xmas to pull clear. I still think they'll go, but not a certainty. On Saturday Newcastle openly played for a 00 at Southampton, if they aren't going to try and win games like that then I don't know when they are. Their only hope is Ashley putting his hand in his pocket in Jan. Huddersfield are toast.

I've got a sneaking feeling for Burnley. They have looked horrible every time I've watched them, they were pretty lucky to beat Cardiff (what a game that was, two teams who actively didn't want the ball).

See your point on cardiff, but it is only goal difference. Can't see them surviving personally. The bottom is gonna be interesting.

See your point. One of 4 teams to have conceded over 20 goals already.

Edit seems my stock phrase is "see your point!"

Brighton were poor at the weekend, too. Still no idea how they beat us.

At the moment, I'd say 10th is about right for where we are. We can play all the lovely football in the world, but if we don't stick the ball in the back of the net on a regular basis then we won't be bothering the Europa league spots (which was an ambitious target in the first place).

I'd still say there's nothing between us, Bournemouth & Watford on any given day - but then you could perhaps argue that Leicester could/should finish above us and they're currently down in 12th.

I reckon, outside of the top 6 (not in order - City, United, Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool) we're in the next batch (us, Watford, Bournemouth, Leicester, Everton, Watford). The sides I've not mentioned below that - any three of them could go. If pushed I'd go for Newcastle, Cardiff & Huddersfield from what I've seen.

Was having an interesting chat with some mates at the weekend, who were saying the Premier League is no longer the strongest (from top to bottom) in Europe. My argument was that they couldn't name the bottom 5 clubs in the German, Spanish, Italian & French top leagues - so they were all filled up with some shite towards the bottom. But their argument was they'd put money on a bottom half Bundesliga (for example) side beating someone like Huddersfield.

Thoughts?

Stuttgart are bottom of the Bundesliga at the moment, I would back them to beat any of our bottom six.

I'd say it's a good decade or so since the PL was the best league in Europe.

Tough going to rank these sides but...

Huesca > Huddersfield > Dusseldorf > Guingamp > Chievo Verona

Maybe. They're all really very poor (although for my money Huddersfield aren't as downright awful as some of the teams above them in the Prem this season. That might just be because I like Wagner, though).

Wagner is a proper myth. I mean you can never write off a promotion, but they scored 56 in 46 that season, finished with a negative goal difference and scored one goal (an own goal) in 330 minutes of play in the playoffs.

They had a respectable enough 24 points from 21 games last season (momentum can carry you a fair way, and he is good at the team spirit stuff). Since then? 16 points from 27 games, which is frankly pathetic. They hardly ever score, using the same cut off they have 14 goals in 27 games, four of them came in one game as well. I also don't think he's a very nice character at all.

I mean they're punching well above their weight, but they won't be missed. Fans are berks on social media as well.

I don't know jack about Wagner as a tactician tbf, I just mean he's a likeable bloke when he speaks!

and he signed VLP as well

And Tom Ince at one point.

I don't think he's a very good manager at all. Far more Owen Coyle than Eddie Howe, put it that way.

VAR in from next season.

And £5m agreed for Scudamore. What a bunch of cunts the clubs are for voting for it and Bruce Buck an even bigger one for suggesting it in the first place. Completely out of touch with the fans.

Scudamore should politely refuse it or make a big show of donating it back into the lower end of the game. Easy for me to say as no one is offering to give me £5m and if they did I would be saying ta muchly.
