The Photography Thread

Amazing article, and as Im currently in Poland, I plan to visit some of the old abandoned Soviet era buildings on the edge of town. The downfall is that I have to do it at night, as I'm working all day, so wont get great photos.

Use the flash - you'll be fine!

reminds me of Keefs blog (have I got the poster right?) The one cycling round eastern europe? Wonder how he's getting on, as I'm not on fb, so didn't save the link.

He's back since mid Sept, think he's planning a trip across the UK in spring, he got a new job so he's saving for another massive trip across Mongolia, Turkey, Bulgaria etc

Can't remember Rob what your phone has, but I can choose the mode, so I can choose, say, 'Night' which allows you to take photos at night, it keeps the aperture open longer.
If you have a manual option go for something silly like 30 seconds cause you can't change the aperture.
Do a few, 20, 30, 40, 60 seconds, see what comes up. Obviously you'll need a pole (Ha! see what I did there....? Not a Polish person) or a post or the corner of a building to get it pressed against. Put a bit of foam or cloth between your phone and the wall or you'll scratch the thing, but press it firmly and hold it still....

Obviously, that depends how much light you actually have.
I was talking about practically dark.
If you have street lamps or a flood light or some other lighting available, you'll be tooling around at 1, 3, 5, or 7 seconds... depends.
Suck it and see.

I'm currently looking to get myself a new mouse, one that will specifically be good for photo editing in Lightroom. The limited research that I've done so far tells me that gaming mice are as good as any when it comes to photo editing. Does anyone have any recommendations? Many thanks.

I'm not sure I can be of much help - I wasn't aware there was such a thing as a gaming mouse until you posted this. Having had a look I might invest in one myself. I don't have any problem with a normal mouse in Lightroom, but could do with something better for Photoshop where I find the selection tools trickier. I've thought about getting a graphics tablet, but could never convince myself it was worth the investment.

I use a gaming mouse and an old wacom tablett for LR and PS work. The gaming mouse will work perfectly, you can usually adjust the speed over a wide range so very fine work is possible

Good to see there´s a photography thread!
I started photography in 2015 and love it, I don´t have as much free time as I´d like to explore it so I onlyphotograph consistently when I´m on vacation, other than that I try to photograph if I get to visit an interesting place in Portugal but mainly I photograph Porto, which is also a fantastic place for it.

Just bumping this as Azul's posts were hidden so his reply wasn't seen at the time

Azul, post some of your best ones on here :)

It´s difficult to chose my best one´s so I´ll post a couple from my city

And some from when I went to Wales and Scotland in 2015, at the time I had my camera just a couple of months ago and didn´t really know how to use it. I was there for 11 days in July only got 1 day of rain, was really lucky

I´ve been in Canada last month for 2 weeks but I didn´t have that much time to work on those pics apart from this one, the first time I tried a triple exposure and also used photoshop

Bloody hell! They're brilliant!

Really nice Azul. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for letting us see them Azul, fantastic photos.

Nice pictures. Took quite an interest in photography a few years ago, but it’s waned recently. I might look at a new DSLR in the sales after Christmas to kickstart things.

Do they appear cut in half for you guys?
When I previewed the post they looked fine but now I can only see half...

Stunning photos.

Very excited to be visiting Porto in April next year.
