The Official World Cup 2018 Megathread

Remember, it's boring if a good team wins the World Cup, we need the likes of Nigeria lifting the trophy.

Or another Greece, only poor side I want to see go a long way is England.

This Nigeria side are at a pretty serious low ebb tbf. Not one of that defense are fit for this sort of matchup.

Also, how can a professional footballer still get beat by Ashley Young? You know that every single time he will cut onto his right foot. It's just like Doherty in 16/17, you know exactly what he will do and yet full backs still got caught off-guard by them doing it again again and again.

Nigeria are better than this, it's not that long ago they beat Argentina.

That said England are looking pretty good, slightly let down by having no LWB though.

Young is playing reasonably well, but I share the same concerns as everyone else with having Young in the starting 11. He’s so bloody predictable. Assume Southgate doesn’t think Rose is quite ready - or maybe he likes having the option of Young in the 11 for his “excellent delivery”.

Lovely goal by Harry Kane.

Ooof Harry Kane (rubbish keeping)

Nigeria are dreadful, you can see why Carl was their first choice.

Some proper parks level stuff there.

This can't just be an off day, they look totally inept all over the park.

Dodgy African keeper - check

What is it with Africa and rubbish goalkeepers.:icon_lol:

Says more about how inept Argentina have been lately. Nigeria's lineup that day was stronger all-around, too.

Same as here and lazy stereotypes tbh.

True, but they did look good and at least vaguely solid.

Vincent Enyeama couldn't stay in the nets forever!

Aye, hugely owed to Awaziem and Ndidi playing that day. Ndidi especially is a massive boon for them. No idea why he isn't playing today but a midfield of Mikel, Obi, and Onazi is begging for disaster, IMO.

I love Mikel but he can't hold things down defensively by himself. Especially at his age.

Enyeama, Kameni, Nkono, I have seen *some* decent African keepers. Not many though.

I remember Andre Arendse being South Africa's first choice around the time he was struggling to get a game for Oxford at the arse end of the third tier.

Some good stuff by England but Nigeria haven’t turned up could easily be 5-0 already.

Silva from Senegal was decent too, as is/was mweene from Zambia. North African keepers always seem pretty decent mostly.

Denis Onyango (Uganda/Mamelodi Sundowns) and Itumeleng Khune (RSA/Kaizer Chiefs) are both also international standard but play for subpar countries and have elected to stay in the SAPD so they don't get nearly the exposure they probably deserve.
