The Official World Cup 2018 Megathread

Atleti would eat PSG alive.

They're the Mikey Carroll of nouveau riche clubs, I wish they'd fuck off.

Go for it. That tournament is one of the most compelling events I've read about since coming to the sport.

Sport is always competition first for me. No one beat Greece that year and they didn't deserve to.

I'm with you Alan. Football is the hardest sport to predict which makes it the greatest sport for me. I like the fact a team of numpties might beat a team of geniuses by parking the bus. Teams need to do what they can with the resources at their disposal.

Trouble for me is that because of the serious money in the premier league the best teams will get the best players. So I can't see outside the big six for top six. If you finish above a bit six you have over achieved and they have under achieved. Wolves finishing 7th next year would be like winning the league in today's terms

Quite like the England kit for the World Cup so I popped into Scum Direct to see it close up with the view to a potential purchase.

£65!!!

Fuck that.

Ridiculous amount of money for something that you may well hardly wear.
Might be a subject for another thread, but football tops are ridiculously expensive for such a time specific item of merch. Yet aside from matches, the place where I see most of them is building sites, where workers have old ones on that are knackered.

They had the Italia 90 design on sale for £26. Almost bought one but I was still reeling from the price tag of the current shirt so decided against it.

Fuck that.

I went into one on Monday with two of my three lads and for the four year old for a kit was £45 and something similar for just the shirt for the 12 year old. My Mrs said that we should get them as we had done in the past (for the now 12 year old and his elder brother) and my reply was no i'm not paying it. She didn't quite grasp that it was feck all to do with price inflation, clothes haven't really gone up in price for years, it was the profiteering of presumably Nike and how much they paid England as the Umbro ones were reasonably priced.

My eldest had bought a training top that looks like a variation of a theme from the 1982 kit and looks good so I'd said I'd go out and get those without realising that they are £40. Scandalous.

Lad in my pool team has the new England top. I thought it was last years...

Winners for me

Heart - England
Head say's France

I would absolutely Kill / Die for an England WC win, Ill be going through all the usual heartache and emotions to do with Supporting England.

I don't want any one else to win it, if it's not England I don't give a fuck who wins it.
I see us getting knocked out in the Quarter finals by Germany, or Brazil (Yes I have filled it in to see who we get).
Would rather actually play Germany as I think we have a better chance, however I don' see us beating any of them.

My choice though to win the tournament is France

Because loads of people don't have the overpriced sky Q 4k box, nor should they have to? Freeview doesn't have the bandwidth for regular 4k and, as almost all TVs and TV boxes come with iPlayer it's the obvious place for it.

OTA content delivery is old 20th century tech, it's a waste of spectrum.

If you have a 4K TV, it almost certainly will have an iPlayer app available for it. So I really don't see the hardship to which you're referring.

No-one is making you crouch around a laptop or an iPad.

That is pure Bollocks, I have a 4K TV and watch Prem in 4K via Sky why should I have to go on the iplayer, just put it on the red button to all, it's about time Sport was taken away from BBC their coverage is shit

My TV has a dedicated iPlayer button. And it's better than a plain, boring red one.

Obv don't agree, I also do not have a speed capable of running this. More people have the Q box than have 40gb speed.
Dissapointed tbh, I heard they were doing it, it's one of the pushes for Sky to be selling a 4k TV for £249.
I was hoping it would be done properly but no.

How else do you expect them to do it? Sounds like the most logical way for a tournament that will last a month?

Nah, assuming you mean 40 mbit

[I do have Sky Q and its ruined by a godawful interface and really flaky poor mesh implemenation]
