The Official World Cup 2018 Megathread

I think we can get past Sweden but still looks like set pieces are our best chance. I quite like how we are playing, particularly the back three I think are excellent and pass the ball around well and keep everything very calm. Kane was brilliant tonight before his legs went (really hope he's OK for Saturday) and Sterling/Lingard provide excellent movement to get into good positions. Unfortunately at this point the quality isn't there with the final ball and decision making but it's still a better watch than most previous England tournament teams I can remember.

Absolutely wrecked guys. Bottle of navy rum has been demolished. Ooops. Work at 7. Guess I am cycling the 12?miles to work.

I'm with you cyber. Wall to wall meeting tomorrow at head office and a late flight home. Going to be a right mess :)

Bloody glad that I have retired & don't need to get up early tomorrow!

McGuire was awesome, sterling is useless and Colombia should have stuck to playing football because everything else they did was unadulterated white!

Fair England did not play to their strengths tonight. Sterling had a shocker. Rash ford to start qf for me

Thought Sterling did ok. If fit I'd leave it as it is except Rose for Young.

Agree Sterling was shite. He kept losing the ball. He didn't create anything and should be replaced if he can't do better.

McGuire MOM for me.

I think a lot of talk on here during the game was very harsh. We'd have seen a very different game if Colombia had any intention of trying to play football.

I thought we were finished at the start of extra time but came back into it by the end. To do that and keep our nerve in the shootout against that approach from the opposition is something to be proud of.

But yes, we can do better and we looked bereft of everything after they equalised but we more than deserved it IMO.

I thought first 20 mins we looked good. 2nd half we were shocking and bad game management off and on the pitch (looking at you Jordan) led to Colombia back in the game.

I thought we recovered well in the 2nd half of extra time and we got forward with pace and purpose and ended the way we started. Alli shouldn't have started and RLC should have come on to give us possession higher up the pitch.

A tip of the hat to Pickford who was great not just for the pens but also his distribution, calmness and ability late on to get the job done. My MOTM was MaGuire who looked imperious on the ball ball and won everything on the air.

Plus RLC for Alli for me. Rose is the mains one though, young and his really slow cut backs need to gtf

Maguire was shit at attacking corners. As big as he is and with that massive fucking heed he should do better.

Can't see why sterling is there honestly, dribbled himselfninto far too many blind alleys when a simple ball was on. As for young???????

I thought Colombia worked out our set plays well enough. Left Mina a free run to win the ball and allow Sanchez to mark Maguire who's a big old unit himself.

We didn't aim for Stones once which I was disappointed with but did Dier when he came on. And should've scored.

That was really disappointing, they were way better at set pieces than us. At the start i thought it was our big chance, especially with kane getting a free kick everytime he touched the ball.

Sterling and Young are the weak links in this side. Sorry it's harsh but Young has no left foot and plays LWB and Sterling flatters to deceive every time he wears the shirt

Sterling wasn't as bad today. Young was really poor, and so was Dier. Alli's not fit still. Dier isn't that much of a problem as Henderson will stay in his place and he has had a good tournament. Alli should be swapped for RLC, and Young for Rose who seemed a bit sharper in ET - still the wrong sub though. LB for LB, does Southgate think he is Kenny Jackett or something?

Do penalty shoot-out goals count towards the Golden Boot?

He'll play the same team against Sweden, but I'd play Rose instead of Young and RLC instead Alli.

Colombia played 3 holding midfielders which shut down lingard, Alli and Sterling. That said Alli didn't look fit.

Kane was my motm, always an outlet and held the ball up well. He has to play up top though, him and vardy doesn't work. Rashford and kane works better

Might surprise some of you now but I'm genuinely happy for you all (and Fred) that you've advanced. Colombia certainly weren't afraid of employing some, er, underhanded tactics.

England v. Sweden will be one I watch with great interest.
