The Official World Cup 2018 Megathread

How the hell are Japan going through to the next round? They are absolute dirt. They literally cannot defend. Literally

That confused the hell out of me for a moment. Presumably if Poland score another then Japan are back down to third.

Shame for England if G-Dog has had them prepping to lose this game, because that's the smart thing to do, everyone loves losing, and that means we get Colombia (née Columbia) instead of Japan. I suppose he has about one hour to get some intensive training in to change that mindset.

Ha. Quite. If I were England, the way it currently stands would be ideal for the next round. Japan are shoite.

So that makes it less interesting tonight then, as both England and Belgium will want to play Japan.

I hope neither play for a draw but it's got to be tempting

We get to play Japan by winning the group, no?

They're both shite. I also remember being excited when we were set to play Iceland.

Belgium need to win realistically.

As for the Iceland thing, we'd have played Northern Ireland if we'd beaten Slovakia. They are way worse than Iceland.

England team is supposedly:

Pickford
Jones
Stones
Cahill
TAA
Dier
Rose
Lingard
Delph
Vardy
Rashford

So 8 changes..

That back 3 is horrid.

The side of the draw with Colombia in is still the ‘easier’ side, even if they’ll be a tougher team to play than Japan (although it sounds like they’ll be without James now?) in the next immediate fixture. Would be lovely if we could win the group and Mexico do over the Brazilians.

Heard something on the radio earlier saying that half of the draw involved a lot less travelling too? Might be a benefit in that.

I was really hoping for some last-minute skulduggery in that one- Colombia putting it into their own net in the 95th to send Japan home, that kind of thing.

Supposedly the reason Belgium are so keen to not win tonight is that the next two games are in Moscow which is where they are based.
