The Official World Cup 2018 Megathread

Its just so slow, you're right he probably does have the ability, but the speed of thought of him and Stones is just not there. We have been spoilt watching Neves and how he can pirouette away from a tackle and then ping the ball 50m out to start and attack.

This was the case for taking Shelvey I suppose. However he's a racist cunt with the fitness of a 62 year old so I'm glad we didn't.

Did they? I don't know.

FWIW I don't think England have been properly tested yet, so it will be interesting to see his tactics for the Belgium game, but I just get the impression that off the pitch, Southgate is quite chilled.

No it won't neither team will play their first choice squad.

Wilshere would be the one to take for me. Best creative option we have and any concerns about his fitness (for this tournament at least) were bollocks.

Wilshere's more of a runner with the ball I'd say. Good at beating a man and opening up space that way (I guess RLC is performing that role). Never really seen him as a deep lying playmaker.

James Ward-Prowse has the passing range as well as superb dead ball skills but he's far too much of a lightweight and his general game isn't coming along enough, too many weak areas, disappears too often and still doesn't really have a nailed down position.

England may lack individual talent, but they certainly seem like a team

Not sure they do....

Kane probably the best striker at the tournament
Dele, Sterling, and Lingard on a par with most teams, probably excepting Belgium, with Hazard, and De-Bruyne

Even at the back everyone seems to be weak including us we seem no weaker or stronger than most of the other teams.
we have seen it many times as well, teams that are greater than the sum of their parts, something I said on this thread right at the beginning.

I'm happy and hope we can get at least a draw tonight

The Guardian are reporting that Vardy will replace Kane in the starting line up.

I wouldn't be happy if I was Kane. Opportunities to win the Golden Boot are rare and not giving your star man the chance to start a game is just bollocks. He could injure himself in training so let him play would be my call.

Judging by the piece in the Guardian only Pickford, Stones and maybe Lingard retain their places.

Agreed.

I hate this mindset.

England have LOADS of individual talent, I questioned the defence and Southgate before the tournament,..if he was capable enough but has proven me wrong so far..

I'd definitely be playing Kane. I don't really see the point in resting him.

If Ashley Young still gets a start I'm chucking something through my TV.

Hopefully Rashford and Rose play well so they keep their places for the last 16 game.

No need to rest Kane - as said could just as easily be injured in a training session (though would probably give Vardy 30 mins if possible as he may be needed at some point)

Would rest anyone who is not 100% or those already on a yellow to prevent the possibility of a second which takes them out of contention for the next game, but no more than that.

Hope Japan v Poland is a draw. If that is the case then whatever happens in the other game it is impossible for Colombia to play the Group G winners.

Saved the blushes of Davinson Sanchez there, switched off ball watching created the space for Mane to get in initially then a really wank tackle with his wrong foot but managed to get a touch on it with his heel, he looks a trainwreck at times.
