Jota needs to work on his goal celebrations if he's going to get to the next level, IMO.

Had to go Neves. If Jota or Bonatini had kept up their pre-christmas form, they'd have had a shout.

Coady has improved hugely but Neves has still had a better season for me.

If we were voting for more than one player then my choice for 2nd would be Jota.

I voted for him in the previous poll and am sure he deserves our thanks for a terrific season.

Special mention to Coady and Boly who kept the defence together.

I'm surprised Jota has got zero votes - scored 18 goals while not playing as an out and out striker and looked to be able to take on the world himself pre-xmas.

This is part of the reason people kept thinking Costa wouldn't be back to his best. What Jota has acheived is awesome, but is eclipsed a little by all the other greatness around him.
When Costa played last year, yes he was on fire, but the comparator was edwards and the like. Costa stood out as so much more talented than all (Cav aside) around him. This season, Costa looked a bit ordinary when he was rusty, because we were also watching Boly, Jota, Neves, and so on...

The last 2 months Costa has looked as good as he did last season.

I can't wait to see Costa in the Premier League. I think he is going to be brilliant.

I agree Costa has been back to his best for the past couple of months. I love watching him run with the ball. His footwork is ace. It's like the ball is stuck to his foot sometimes. He looks like he has LOVED the promotion celebrations too. I bet he was a bit worse for wear after the Blues match :icon_lol:

With Jota, Cav & Costa mainly fighting it out for two spots, it's great that we we can bring one of them in once one of the others starts getting a bit tired or slightly out of form.

Costa’s balance is Ballet esque. The way he turns, runs and drops the shoulder is a joy to watch. Shooting and finishing hasn’t been quite at it this year which is surprising considering the number of goals he got for us last year

Why is Douglas being over looked he’s been brilliant all season one of the best free kick takers & crossers we’ve had in a long time.

Because he isn't Ruben Neves, Willy Boly or Connor Coady?

That's the thing with only having 1 vote, you can't select your top three and he isn't beating them three despite his wonderful return this season

There's more to being a left back that free kicks and crosses.

Jota was great pre-Birmingham and has been for a good 10 or 11 games lately, but he had a poor couple of months in between. Had he not had that couple of months in between he’d have been up there with Neves.

Then again Neves wasn't that flash for a while. Look at the poll we ran in November, he was nowhere near winning.

As ever, people get skewed by remembering the performances nearer the end of the season. This is why you get nonsense such as Doherty (barely even played before Christmas and was an absolute warcrime at LB for a couple of months before we signed someone to hold his hand), Stearman (dropped for fucking EEL for a fair while) and Rankine (I have no words, seriously) winning.

Diogo is my second choice, he's been class this season.

Third is difficult between Boly and Coady, but I think I will plum for Connor. He's been transformed this season, last year I'd have taken a bag of Quavers in return for him, this season it would be closer to £7-8 mill.

I think Neves has been class all season. The poll highlights how much Jota dropped off his earlier form rather than Neves not being so good earlier on.

Look at the Derby highlights, which was only our second game.

I'd say he was good over the first three months. Then from November onwards he's gone from strength to strength.

He wasn't winning the poll in November because he wasn't dominating games, which he does now.

Jota was kicked from pillar to post when it was seen how good he was and referees did nothing/little to protect him. Luckily he bounces quite well and although his stature is small he is a tough cookie which kept him going. The signing of Afobe and the improvement in form of Cav and Costa helped take the spotlight off him somewhat.

Thank fuck we are out of this rough league and it's predominantly poor officials. While I think teams in the PL are quite capable of dishing it out, they usually come to play and the officials are usually the best in the country.

Tough cookie is a bit of an understatement I think Dino. Jota is a proper hard cunt.

Reminds me a lot of Messi how he’s tripped and then manages to carry on running with the ball whilst stumbling back to his feet.
