The Official FIFA World Cup 2022 Megathread

Qatar, easily. Although arguably they shouldn't count.

Walsall would beat Qatar 100 times out of 100.
Qatar were crap but Costa Rica have nothing, no energy, no real effort, obviously Spain are a good side but maybe being made to look better than they are?

I've been really surprised at the massive number of empty seats that the organisers have allowed. I'd expected them to 'encourage' locals to go to make sure the grounds are full

No need to encourage fans to attend if you can just lie about the attendance.

Yeah, but think of the logistics.

If you "encouraged" the locals of Leeds and Halifax to attend four games a day they'd probably say it was a bit much all in one go. And that's the geographical spread you're on about.

The indigenous population of Qatar is only just about higher than the population of Wolverhampton.

Qatar visibly have players who wouldn't make Conference North teams, they're not on the same page as anyone else. Costa Rica are indeed terrible but not as bad as that.

And actual Qatari citizens have a lot of money to burn on other vices than sport.

Even allowing for people coming over from the UAE, Bahrain, and bordering parts of Saudi Arabia that still only adds up to around the population of London within a reasonable day's travel (and it's a pretty stretched definition of "reasonable").

The demographics would be totally different too, like you might get 250,000 "Londoners" (as in where they currently reside, not as in how much pie and mash they can eat) to more or less equally attend four games across the capital (Wembley, Spurs, Arsenal, Olympic Stadium if you like) if you asked them nicely and offered them cheap tickets. Not so much with the native ME population because guess what, they don't like football that much and loads of them are either infants or ancient.

If CR are THIS bad that essentially means Germany are bottom of a 3 team group and will in all liklihood have to beat Spain on Sunday...tasty

I can't believe how bad they've been. They just haven't looked arsed at any point of this.

And might come down to GD if all three finish on 6 points

Germany draw with Spain
Japan beat this Costa Rica joke.

Japan 0-0 Spain eliminates Germany no matter what they do as Japan and Spain would move to 7 and 5 points and Germany could only reach 4.

Germany simply have to win.

I do feel that we’re underselling how impressive the Spanish just were a bit.

Based on today they’ll beat Germany at a canter.

Sorry Alan but no. The pundits and public alike are right in that this is all about how sht Costa Rica are. Unlike England thumping Iran - we can rightly give England the cup now. Vindaloo.

Looking at that Belguim team, there's a few big nations, England included with a ropey centre half or 2 in their starting 11

So Japan have beaten Germany, but somehow managed to lose the Asia cup final to Qatar 1-3? Hmmmm…

Spain won't want 2nd place though

Can't see there being any injury time in the Belgium Canada game with this ref.
