The Official FIFA World Cup 2022 Megathread

They're the bloody Champions of Asia! Just chuck out the whole region while we're at it.

31 sides qualified for this on merit. And one bought their way in who frankly looking at this would finish bottom of their regional qualifying group. Its not a place from Italy they have taken. Its an Asia qualifying team that was better missing out. I imagine China would be more competitive.

You are watching this game, yes?

They're comically awful. A couple of the players look genuine parks level, can't even control the ball.

Their number 12 is the worst footballer I've ever seen.

I'm watching this game but as I've said, this isn't the first time I've seen basically this exact Qatari team. This is the worst I've seen them play by a distance.

They are making Ecuador look like Brazil 1982. Ecuador are not very good.

I didn't watch any of the AFC, and this is the only 58 minutes I've ever watched of Qatar. But based on this I find it impossible to believe that they won that tournament without bungs or geopolitical pressures being at play
All I can say is that they were at least doing the basics right at the Gold Cup. They looked a genuinely decent counter-attacking side with Afif and Almoez-Ali.

Granted, that was against CONCACAF nations, but generally I think Ecuador is about the same standard as what Qatar played against in that tournament. So that they have been so bereft of any quality today has been a surprise to me.

Yeah, I mean you can get wins like Greece 2004 or Portugal 2016 where they clearly weren't the best team. But they could recognisably play football. Qatar aren't on any kind of scale, they're worse than UAE 1990 or Saudi Arabia 2002 or North Korea 2010.

If Walsall were priced 1/4 against these I'd still take it, free money.

I'll have to take your word for it but I can't see how they could possibly play on the counter. All 11 players on show would lose a race to Lee Evans or George Saville.

Afif is bloody fast when he gets going. Good dribbler, too.
Come to think of it, he's kind of like a skinny Qatari version of Adama. With less end product.

Heck, some of them would lose to Jimmy Saville...

Not sure I agree that Ecuador aren't very good. Took points off Argentina and Brazil in qualifying, they'll give England a game in the knockout stages, could beat them.

The same Afif that is playing today? He makes Adama look like George Weah.

Ahhhh yes keeping showing those sad widdle Qatari royals, that is content I am here for.
Excuse me, camera guy, we're not getting enough of this

None of the Qataris that showed up well last year have done anything today. Al-Haydos was awful today, Pedro has been poor, Afif diabolical, Almoez-Ali anonymous. All four were quite good last I saw them.

Today, as has been pointed out numerous times (correctly), they've been really piss-poor.
