The Official Euro 2016 Megathread

And the UK is England, Scotland, Wales, & NI.

Hence the confusion sometimes between the two.

It's worth the sore head after a result like that.

Absolutely! And I am hoarse too, so imagine my delight when I arrived in work and the trainer who is shadowing me, asked if she could present todays training. Happy days!

Having studied the draw today I'm now glad we came second, I'd rather play Iceland than Northern Ireland. If we lose to Iceland then so be it we deserve to be out. I'd then rather play France/Eire than Hungary/Belgium. If we make the semis then as Deutsch has already said you expect a big hitter.

Seriously? Really?

You think it is better to have come out on the side with Italy Spain Germany France. Okaaaay.

I'd rather play Iceland than N Ireland, but I'd certainly rather be in the other half of the draw!

(For this purpose I am assuming Wales beat Northern Ireland and England beat Iceland - no arrogance on either side)

So on one side of the draw lie Hungary who have beaten a shocking Austria, just got a point against Iceland with a last second equaliser and drew with Portugal in a bonkers game, or possibly more likely Belgium who got badly turned over by Italy, were less than convincing against Sweden and have also had one good performance where they beat Ireland who had a horror show and didn't turn up. To add to that, this is a Belgium from whom Wales took four points in qualifying and so should have reasonable confidence about. Extrapolate that with the fact that England beat Wales and then surely England would start pretty heavy favourites. Then the semi-final - Portugal / Croatia / Poland probably - in all likelihood Croatia. A tough game but not unwinnable.

Or you can have France, playing on home turf. Followed by one of Germany Italy and Spain.

For me finishing first in group B was hugely important.

We can only play two of them, maximum.

But you are as good as guaranteed as to be playing two of them straight after each other unless the Republic pull off a miracle.

There is no guarantee of playing Belgium on the other side, and there is no guarantee of playing Croatia.

France have been shite. Not bothered whether it'd be them or Belgium.

And yet they are on home soil. You can definitely make a case for England beating them. What about that potential semi-final then?

Top half of the draw is the place to be, no matter how you dress it up. It was one second from being even more conclusively so had Iceland not scored a goal to pull Portugal into the top half.

At the end of the day, if either England or Wales make the semis, or both, then we can look back and think we called it right. I'd still rather be where we are.

Absolute madness, but there you go.

Had England scored against Slovakia and I was espousing such nonsense to say I was happy with Wales' lot you would all be taking the piss and rightly so.

i'm with you Pad. imo clearly better to have won the group and of course avoid that half of the draw.

though belgium and croatia will be thinking the same.

can't knock bravado though :)

Hopefully both teams can come through to the semi-final.

I am more worried about the Nordies for some reason. Will worry about Belgium / Hungary as and when we get there.

We can't control any of that though. Should we have won the group, yes, overwhelmingly so given we dominated all three games. Is there an advantage in finishing top with the way the draw's panned out, probably, but it really isn't that conclusive, there's no real logic behind suggesting France will magically improve but Belgium won't, player for player they're evenly matched and Croatia have been the best team so far, better than Spain (who they beat) or Germany (who we beat less than three months ago). Also if Spain make it through - having played the exact same XI in all their group games - they're going to have had to beat Italy and Germany to get there. They're going to be mentally and physically knackered.

There is no way I would have taken the piss, why would I?

I think the problem on the bottom of the draw is the Germans. Fully expect them to deal with Slovakia easily, and then pick of a tired winner of the Spain v Italy clash

I also mention again that Wales have played and beaten Belgium recently so I am hopeful of that one. Croatia (and to some extent Poland) look worries though. Frankly, I am happy already. Quarter-final would be an excellent achievement, and beyond that becomes dreamland.

I know for a fact if Wales were to make the semi-final (which is FAR from certain) I would rather face Croatia than Germany
