The Official Euro 2016 Megathread

Sensible stuff from Bilic, trouble is we're probably going to end up playing Austria, Hungary or Iceland. Who will surely play exactly as Slovakia have today.

If Lallana could finish, we'd have won that group by a mile.
Also, Vardy should have gone off as soon as Slovakia started sitting so deep. Nullifies his main threat.

Were you smug on Thursday? Be smug if you go further than us, which you could well do. At the moment I'd back us both to go out at the quarters. You to Belgium, us to France
Yeah actually because I never expected us to beat England so to come so close to a draw was an excellent result.

From here, England have thrown the group away whilst we've got the maximum we could at all expect.

We were probably fortunate that Wales were not more adventurous. Better sides will exploit our weaknesses at the back.
And congrats if they do. At least they will have set out to have a go.

The better sides are also weak at the back and will leave us more space to attack, it works both ways. Lets just see what happens.

They will have to attack at some point though which will leave gaps, hopefully we will take advantage of those.

Fuck reality, we have dominated all 3 games and created very good chances in the 2 games we didn't win. All 3 teams have just set out to defend against us where as they have attacked against each other. Not easy to break teams down that just sit back and don't have any interest in scoring.
Yep.

Why can't we beat France? They've not looked world beaters. We've got just as good a squad as them so who knows?

Anyway, that's the quarters. We're not there yet. Hard to say how we should set up until we know who we're playing On Monday.

A bit pissed off not to win the group because it would have meant a nice day of heavy drinking during the build up!

Congrats as well to Wales - pleased they're through as I will be able to actively wanting them to win which I've not been able to do yet.

I think you might be right. Depends on what Zlatan and co do against the Belgians I guess.

Hopefully people will get off Danny Rose's case now. Bertrand is a good premier league left back, but an international full back he is not. Far too negative - lost count of the number of times he passed it backwards. Thought he even looked a little bit suspect defensively with the one or two occasions he actually had to do something.

I'm not a fan of the former, but agree the latter didn't do enough to take his place. Rose plays next week.

Indeed, wrong choice from Roy. I'd have put Rashford on for Vardy but against the run of opinion on here I thought Sturridge was rubbish. Continually dropped deep and slowed play down allowing Slovakia to get more players behind the ball.

I thought Henderson had a decent game. Wilshere, Bertrand and Sturridge were poor. Can't see how an injection of pace would have made a difference and it should have been either quickening up the short game or getting a striker who could head the ball at goal on... only we didn't take one of those. I said it was poor selection at the time. Pretty disgraceful that we made Skrtl look imperious in the air tonight.

Eric Dier MoM for me.

Nicked off the Beeb:

The last three evening games have highlighted the problem with this format. Teams like Slovakia were too happy to sit back, show no ambition and hope for Third place. This tournament will only really gather place once the quarterfinals start. Till then, we can expect more of '10 men behind the ball'.

Hard to disagree with that, I doubt that Slovakia would have sat back quite as much if a draw wan't enough to qualify.

Ultimately both home nations through, which is what 'most' of us wanted.

As said knockout stage now & less likely that a team will risk defending manfully & hoping to nick a goal or going to penalties which are (for most teams) a lottery

I thought as a goal scoring threat he was poor, but a couple of his through balls were great, one for Clyne and there was another I just can't remember who for.

I said before the game that we should not have took it for granted that we would win. We did that and paid the price. To finish second in that group is rather disappointing.

Whilst we dominated the game it never felt like a goal was imminent, real lack of width is costing us when teams are banking up against us.
I have no problem with what the other three teams have done against us if your good enough break them down.
