The Official Euro 2016 Megathread

We can only come third if we lose. Russia could overhaul us on GD if they win and there's enough of a goal swing across the two games, and Wales will finish above us if they win and we lose. However if we draw and go on to five points then neither Russia nor Slovakia can catch us whatever happens. If we win then we win the group, no questions asked.

For what he's in the team to do, he's been immaculate. Not even conceded a free kick yet.

We don't have anyone else in the squad capable of doing all the work of a holding midfielder on their own. You can play Milner/Henderson/Wilshere (and Alli at a push) deep in a pair in a 4-2-3-1, but we aren't playing that formation and haven't since the World Cup.

His distribution was atrocious.

He's not there to distribute the play - he's there to act as a holding midfielder, which he did very well indeed. He helped nullify Bale. He had a decent game.

Thought he played well in the first game. Thought he looked knackered against Wales. Hope he plays well tonight.

Dier is one of if not the first name on the team sheet for me. As Deutsch says, there's no-one else who can do the same job. I hope he can do the same job on Hamsik as he did on Bale.

I agree with Langers and DW that Dier is vital to the side and creates a much need barrier at times in front of what is a sketchy back four. I wouldn't trust the likes of Henderson or Milner to do his job.

Dier is a revelation, second only to Kante as a holding midfielder, and Walker certainly had his weetabix!

Absolutely - I wouldn't have started with Walker before the Russia game (despite the fact he did well in the final warm up game) but credit where it's due, he's been very good.

I thought Dier's short passing was fine. He put in a few horrible lofting crosses, but then he's not in the team to be whipping balls into the box so I'll forgive him for that.

Ridiculous thing to say after 2 games but he's an early contender for England's player of the tournament for me.

Walker and Dier have been the two standouts for me, Rooney and Lallana have been good and exceeded my pre-tournament expectations.

Still yet to be convinced there's an obvious favourite to win. Hard to judge Spain based on who they've played, especially Turkey who just gave up. I thought France were crap in all three group games.

No, agree that there aren't obvious favourites. None of the heavyweights - Germany, Spain, Italy, Belgium, France, even England - look convincing.

Half tempted to put a tenner on a team like Wales or Hungary. Have a gut feeling one of the smaller teams is going to ride their luck this year and do a Denmark/Greece.

I have a bit of a fear for Wales tonight. I'm not sure Coleman's got it in his locker to approach this game properly even allowing for how poor Russia look.

France weren't all that great in '98 until the latter stages though. They've had a LOT of good fortune thus far - indeed, they should have lost last night if the ref would have seen Sagna's shirt pull in the last minute. There's certainly no clear favourite - Italy impressed me against Belgium, but they made really hard work of the Sweden match.

I'm now going to take this opportunity to rant about my sweepstake choices. Yes - again.

Romania - already out
Slovakia - obviously I'll be hoping to god they're stuck on 3 points after tonight
Austria - absolutely rancid side

I will put a bet on croatia to win it

Austria were my wild card so that looks crap so far! As for the rest it has been much of a muchness. Italy have probably over performed but Spain Germany France and england must all fancy their chances. Of the minnows Hungary seem to have hit some form at the right time
