The NFL Thread

Was out for a few drinks this afternoon/evening so managed to fall asleep sometime during the second quarter 🤦‍♀️ woke up just in time for the game winning field goal.

Now feeling even more tired so no way am I staying awake for the Niners lost to the Seahawks.

You act like I think he's a scrub. I don't think he's Jesus Christ is all.

Cooks never had complete possession (YMMV) before the ball was taken away, and it was taken away completely. If they'd both had arms around it, you'd be right that it would (or, at least should) be ruled a catch.
Looking at it over and over again, you're wrong. He had possession, both hands on the ball, he was down by contact, and the Broncos player ripped it out of his hands while he was lying on his back. A similar thing happened last year in the Bills V Chiefs game, Bills defender ripped it out of Worthy's hands, ruled a catch. But whatever, the refs were super keen to just move on and the Bills had to take a timeout just to slow them down enough to look at it again. They barely gave it a look.

Doesn't alter the fact that the Bills beat themselves of course. 5 turnovers, sloppy mistakes, penalties (funny mind how the Broncos got away with one on a pass to Cooks in the end zone which was as bad if not worse than the one that ended the game). Bills just needed to play better and not let the officials have an impact on the outcome, but they didn't.

Hope the NFC team absolutely stomps the AFC team in the Superbowl. Go Seahawks/Rams/Bears.

You don’t have possession the second you have two hands on the ball. A lot more incompletions would be fumbles if that were the case. I don’t see possession before the ball is taken away. Sorry.

Its not the same as an incompletion. You are wrong on this. He absolutely has 2 hands on the ball all the way to the ground at which point the defender has contact with him which means he is automatically down by contact, the play is dead. The ball is never loose, in fact he tucks it into his gut while on his back. The defender then rips the ball out. Its no different to if a receiver makes a sliding catch. Defenders can't just rip the ball away and claim an INT then can they? No. Plenty of officials saying that they got it wrong.

Okay man. The explanation from the refs was exactly what I saw. Cook didn’t complete the process of the catch. McLaughlin’s arm is between the ball and Cooks’ body when the tuck happens. He never had possession, ball didn’t hit the ground, McLaughlin gains possession, INT.

I think that’s an INT. If there was no defender there and it came out at the same time it would be incomplete, not a fumble.

Surely Denver must have made some small contribution as well :D

I must admit to profound ignorance of the NFL salary cap maths, but am I reading the info Tony put up that as of now Josh Allen's salary accounts for 18% of the total allowed wage bill at Buffalo? He really would be untradeable then as I can't imagine too many teams having such a huge amount of headroom as that to be able to pay him and he certainly isn't going to accept a pay cut to trade and why would he?

So I think we can assume he stays at least for a couple more seasons. He clearly is a massive talent, but he can't presumably drag the team to the Lombardi on his own, although he has got close. What do Buffalo need on the roster to help him and have they got the cap headroom? Also, if Allen stays, as he surely must, are the coaches the people who the organisation bins for letting their talent down, as it were?

To your actual question, Buffalo do really need to improve their secondary, IMO. Played a lot of backups yesterday but as a unit they played into Payton’s hands for a lot of it. Overly aggressive and don’t really have speed in depth to minimize the risks that entails.

They really need to do what Cooks said postgame, though. Find whoever or whatever it takes so that Allen doesn’t feel like he has to be the Second Coming for them to win when it matters.
