The NFL Thread

Bears probably don't win that game without the dirty hit. Looks like it'll be the Wild Card game in 3 weeks. It'll be a closer 2nd vs 7th game than we usually get. It'll be an interesting play offs as I don't think whoever gets the 1&2 seeds will be the best sides in their Conference, which are the Bills and Rams imo

On current form it's the Jags in the AFC, but you're right that 2nd v 7th could go either way in the playoffs. All 14 teams (except the Bucs/Panthers) will be able to put forward a legitimate argument for why they deserve to win the SB.

Is this the new Lawrence or just a purple patch? That's the biggest question in the NFL for me. I'm confident the QB will ultimately be the barrier, but not necessarily the only one to winning a SB in Seattle, Pittsburgh and San Francisco and a question mark in Denver, Green Bay and Chicago. Houston and Philly have game managers who can take a team to it, New England, Buffalo and LAx2 who can win it for them and are less reliant on the talent around them

@darlowolf64 I presume you adore DJ Moore? This will be his first winning season since he was in high school (usually ages 14-18 here). So, a looooong time.

Chuffed for him. Good player, great teammate.
He had a slow start to the season and hadn’t scored many TD’s but he was creating spaces for the other wide receivers. He has stepped up the longer the season has gone on and yes, I think he’s a superb team player. Was really chuffed for him on Saturday.

Someone has mentioned the “illegal hit”, Love bent his legs down and lowered his own head just before he got hit. Roughing the passer or unnecessary roughness” would be the correct call (and was)

I love that people are still dismissing the Bears so easily too

Watching Rivers is pretty surreal. The way he audibly diagnoses the defense is phenomenal, then you have this Grandad bod and the fact he can only really toss the ball forwards. Can't not root for him though

Purdy the first 49ers QB since Joe Montana to throw five touchdowns in a game (obviously read TT's post) albeit against not very good backup corners. On his day he's very good but he's always prone to a quarter where he can rival Jameis Winston for picks and bad decisions.

Even if Purdy is perfect for the rest of the year, the fact the Niners couldn't get any pressure on old man Rivers will ultimately let them down anyway against a better team, as the pass rush is non existent.

75yd TD reception to start the game - very unTexan!

Then a 43yd TD to go 14-0 up inside 6 minutes.

Sam Darnold when asked if he could write a book on how to coach QBs:

“I could probably write a better book about how not to coach QBs”.

Got emmm

He's obviously better than previously thought but he'll be the reason the Seahawks don't win the Superbowl I expect.

Got zero going against the Panthers so far.

Weather is crap here; both offenses have managed the square root of fuck all so far.

Really more enjoying the willingness to take shots at the terrible organizations he spent his early years with (including Carolina tbf). I think he’s ultimately the sort who can win a Super Bowl but wouldn’t be the key to it. His offensive line being mid won’t help that (and I still think he took too much flak for the Vikings’ collapse against LA last season; the offensive line played like tissue paper that day, IMO), but if Trent Dilfer can win a ring, I think Darnold could, too.

Could. 😎

Can’t defend the decision to throw that almost-interception, tho. Big let off that MJ was just out of bounds.

Edit: wtf

Wtf twice lmao ball don’t lie

Losing Rashid Shaheed won't do him any favours, and he's just potentially got very lucky if that's not a pick.

I guess that's why Seattle could win the SB and ultimately why they won't in 2 plays. Top 3 defense, average QB despite the probowl nonsense

I’d forgotten about Shaheed; that’s a big problem as his sort of speed can be really useful in keeping defenses conservative, which can ease the offensive line issues.

This big TE Seattle has looks a player. But for all Seattle has had the look of a complete team, I can’t make heads or tails of how far off being really great they are.

It’s weird (positive) for me to imagine BofA on a UK broadcast (presumably through a subscription but still). 🥲

Yeah I don't think there's been an occasion since I started watching the NFL that the Panthers have been in the main game (even if it's the early window).
