The NFL Thread

Bills scrimmaging with the Steelers this week prior to their game on Saturday. Objective number 1: don't get injured. Objective numbers 2-10: don't get injured...

Steelers seem to be having a bit of a mean streak at the moment, I can't see them making the play offs this season they aren't good enough.

I love Ponder, but having watched 3 years of him at FSU, I can say that he really wasn't the real deal coming out. The hit he took against Clemson where he dislocated his throwing shoulder totally changed him. He was throwing fire until that point.

First round was way too high for him and he got thrown in to a starting role way too quickly. I think he needed to be brought along like Matt Cassel or Nick Foles.

I completely forgot about that injury. That explains that, then.

I'm a bit gutted that Ray Rice has been suspended for 2 games, mind you he seems to have lost a yard of pace.

C.J. Mosley from Alabama seems like an excellent acquisition by the Ravens. I hope he can make the jump from College to the NFL but he could be another massive flop.

As a Bama fan I can tell you CJ is mentally an incredibly player, smartest LB we had since Rolando McClain (though that did Rolando more harm than good when he started trying to usurp his d-coordinators job, but that's another story).

If CJ has an issue its his size. He's a tad short but stout. Should be a good role player for now, has the potential to be a defensive leader if he can really learn his angles.

He's 6ft 2, 235 lbs. I cant imagine him as anything other than a natural athlete.

Is that how he's listed? He never looked that tall at Bama but I suppose appearances can be deceiving.

Yeah, mind you some of the ravens site facts aren't 100% accurate.

Height/weight listings are almost always tampered with to favor the player. When I played in high school they listed me as 6'1", 153lbs when I was 5'10.5", 137lbs.

I thought Flacco was smaller and less muscly than they were saying.

Couple things of note:

-if you talk to a red-blooded American and call an NFL game a "tie", it sounds weird because we refer to our "draws" as ties
-football measurements are always, always skewed (ie. the leaderboard Urban Meyer had in the locker room at UF... A dozen guys running sub-4.3 40m? LOL)
-Rice is rightfully suspended for dragging his woman around by her hair (light sentence IMO)
-Bama is a powerhouse for pumping out NFL-ready defenders... CJ should be incredible

Rice's suspension is a joke. Knock your girlfriend out and drag her around by her hair? No worries, you get 2 games. Smoke a bit of weed in your time off during the off season? Anywhere from 1 game to 4. Goodell has his priorities skewed IMO.

Marcell Dareus was from Bama I believe, and he was a pro bowler last year and has been looking truly dominant in camp and pre season so far this. Guy is a beast. By seasons end he'll be recognised as one of the best DTs in the NFL, mark my words.

Dareus went to Bama, yes. Last true front seven star we had. Glad he's coming on strong, I remember he struggled his rookie year.

He didn't really struggle, was top 10 in DTs for sacks and tackles I believe, but he didn't dominate as he was expected to. I think this year he is primed to be a dominant force. Doesn't hurt that he has Mario and Kyle Williams playing alongside him. All 3 of those guys made the top 100 NFL players of last year list, the only D-line in the league to have 3 players crack the top 100. The 4th guy on the Bills D-line, Jerry Hughes also had 10 sacks. The best line in the league that nobody knows about...

Well, glad to know his struggles were overstated, then! I always like old Alabama guys to be successful.

Ugh Alan, you're a Bama fan? I almost went there. Scholarship was low-ball so I went in state.
That said, I despise Bama. Enjoy Jacob Coker, though. ;)

Coker probably won't start. Going on what Saint Nick has said we'll begin the season with Blake Sims and probably move on to this RS freshman kid if Blake can't cut it.

Decent game for the Vikings last night. Got a win 30-28 over the Cardinals, Teddy Bridgewater played the whole of 2nd half and was excellent.

I tend not to read too much into pre-season performances, they are usually not much more than an evaluation tool for players who could or could not make the roster. That said, it is still more than disappointing that in 3 games Buffalo's first string offense has yet to register a TD even though they have played little more than a half in the 3 games combined. Quite concerning that with all the weapons they have on offense in 6 trips to the redzone they have still to get into the endzone. One could say that at least they are getting into the redzone I suppose!

Do you reckon this year is the last chance for EJ Manuel or will he get another season regardless?
