The NFL Thread

This league has employed a player who drove drunk and killed a pedestrian. And he wasn't half the player Watson is.

I would imagine there's not a team in the league who doesn't have at least 1 player with a questionable background be that drugs, guns, domestic abuse or something worse

I would be exceedingly surprised if Watson doesn't play again. There is no suggestion (for now) that he violently raped anyone. A few years ago his behaviour would have been seen as perfectly normal. He can spin at as a series of misunderstandings. He said/she said cases are difficult to prove, and he can buy his way out of trouble.

He will likely suit up again for Dolphins/Broncos/Panthers/Eagles. He seems to prefer Dolphins, Texans would prefer a NFC team.

I AM NOT SUGGESTING HIS ACTIONS ARE ACCEPTABLE.

He wants to play for a team in the south which means Denver and Philly are out unless they become his only options

For the first time in years I will not watch the Texans 1st game of the season on live TV. It's our wedding anniversary, we are going out, and the Texans SUCK. Even more than usual. We are playing at home against the Jags, and the Jags are favourites! Every single game this season we will be underdogs.
It all starts off the pitch. The right wing billionaire team owner died and was succeeded by a religious son of a billionaire who is clueless and guided by a man whose previous job was pastor to the Pats. Brand new Head Coach and GM - neither of whom have held their jobs before. They won't do much but at least they can't do any worse than Bill O'Brien giving away DeAndre Hopkins in one of the worst trades ever or continually failing to build a pass defence.
Only 18 months ago they were up 24-0 in Kansas in the playoffs. Then they let Patrick Mahomes score 51 points and go on to win the Superbowl.
There is a reason I talk about Deshaun Watson so much. Absolutely amazing QB. A younger Russell Wilson. Won so many games without an O-line to help him. He will win a Superbowl if/when he is allowed to play again. (Roger Goodell will make this difficult, regardless of any court cases)
Now he is unavailable and all the best players are gone, no rookies, just a collection of rejects and has-beens, guided by Tyrod Taylor at QB. Arguably the worst NFL team ever. Nothing to look forward to, no foundations to build on. No reason to watch them.
But they are only 3 point underdogs on Sunday so I will record the game and watch it later. Anything could happen. Win and I might watch them again. Lose badly and that might be it for me.

Can turn around quickly though. Number 1 pick in April, 2/3 1st's for Watson. Granted you need someone competent picking them

Hey now, don't go calling Mark Ingram a reject or has-been!

That guy is my dawg. Great player.

Just under 300 yards last season.

53 1st round picks needed - and even then you wouldn't bet on them screwing it up.
Nick Caseiro might become a decent GM but he has nothing to build a team around.

He was out for basically the entire year tbf. Still averaged just over 4 yards a carry which isn't fantastic but is a marked improvement over what the Texans were doing on the ground last season.

Looking at the stats now and it's weird that the Texans were so awful on the ground last season; David Johnson had a decent YPC but they just didn't give him the ball very often. Can only assume that means the defense was terrible and the offense was constantly having to play catchup?

Got some bad news about a lot of NFL players for you if a Judeo-Christian ideology puts you off that much.

O'Brien was run first and predictable. Crennel liked to give the ball to Watson, but also predictable. David Johnson was inconsistent and yes, always playing catch-up.

I understand there are very few atheist NFL players (or Americans in general), but it really turns me off when they start off by thanking something that does not exist.

We don't need to turn this into a religious debate, of course, but suffice to say that God is very real to those that believe in that kind of thing!

Just for you, I'll send some good vibes down to Houston. My uncle is also a long suffering fan of Houston franchises going back to the Oilers' days, so I do get to hear relatively often about how bad the Texans are (even in the years when they're not; my family is a tough bunch to please).

Made me hurl when Foles had the game of his life, won a Superbowl and went down that route. A British thing I think
I don't think I realized that there was such vitriol about that kind of thing over there.

It's not vitriol. Can't speak for others, it's just that religion is something associated with an uneducated society, and the need to voice it so prominently - yes, it probably is vitriol!

Yeah I can tell that this line of discussion probably wouldn't be very productive.

No less interesting, though! Appreciate your frankness.

Uneducated society. I don't mean that individual believers are any less than intelligent and sincere.
