The NFL Thread

I did not know that. Last I heard was that because the Texans did not ask for an interview until after an agreed window had shut, they would not be able to speak to him until after the playoffs.

Bienemy might be the most positive choice they could make - if he actually wants the job.

Adam Schefter has tweeted about it a few times ("It's gone from the least desirable head coaching job (opening) to the most undesirable head coaching job in the NFL."), and I did just read about the Jets. Patriots have also been mentioned, as has the fact that 25+ teams should be interested.

It does seem more and more likely that he will leave, and tbh I'm not sure how much of a fan I will be in the future. All NFL owners say and do things that are difficult for a left-leaning person to agree with, but Cal McNair also seems particularly religious and incompetent. Watson has been the one bright spot who could drag the team forward (JJ Watt is past his best), both could leave, and an unispiring new defensive HC might be the last straw for me. Their recent games have not been on local tv and my wife was happy for us to spend more time together.
If like to see the Saints go for Watson, I think he would be a great replacement for Brees.

Absolutely he would be good for the Saints. Any team (bar the 4 still in the playoffs) would be better with him - if they could afford him.

Jota goes to Liverpool and it's like "ok, good luck, I'm still a Wolves fan." Watson though is not just good, he's Coady/Neves/Moutinho/Raul combined good. He IS the team. The only reason to watch the Texans.

Apparently there is a march planned on Houston today in his support. He has asked the organisers to cancel it.

They can't afford him. This is their cap situation

I imagine they’ll be some jiggery pokery on contracts and releases here and there but they could afford him if they wanted to. All teams manage a way somehow. Only $400k of dead space is pretty good.

I didn’t realise the Eagles and Falcons were in the same boat.

Yeah Falcons got tons of money in Julio and Ryan who are either always injured or underperforming. Spent a ridiculous amount of money on Dante Fowler as well who is dreadful.

I don’t really know how it works though tbh. I think you can “cut” people where you still have to pay them the guarantees but you save the cap money.

The teams are bottomless pits so the actual hard cash doesn’t actually matter, it’s more making sure they meet the rules.

Colts make the most sense as a destination to me. Playoff team, with an already good roster, a veteran QB whose 1 year deal has ended, plenty of offensive weapons and a boatload of cap space.

I'm no expert but i don't think you can really do anything about cap money unless you trade the contract. You can move it into later years but it'll always be there even if you cut the player. The only real way out of it is drafting well and having good players on rookie deals. The Eagles have been kicking the can for years whilst drafting badly, which is why they are screwed

I know Ricardo Allen is due like $8m in his final year (2021), but we can cut him and only lose $2m In dead cap and save the $6m. I’ve always assumed this to be related to guarantees but I don’t know. Trying to watch some videos to teach myself

Philip Rivers has retired. Come on Indy, you know you want to...

Colin Cowherd in the US saying the Chiefs v Bills game should be postponed until Mahomes is healthy. What the actual fuck!? What a knob.

Nick Sirianni the Colts OC is the new Eagles Head Coach / scapegoat for Wentz being a prick.
