The Music Thread Strikes Back

White Album is 50 years old today.

It's still flipping brilliant, with some amazing innovative songs. Been listening the newly released Esher demos recently too, great to hear a different take.

Talking of The Beatles, I listened to the original piano demo of Lennon playing Real Love. Absolutely superb and I'm surprised he never made more of it and didn't realise what a fantastic song it was straight away.

The White Album is a stunning album, but I've always thought that if they stripped it down and made it into a single album, it'd have been their best ever album. There's a lot of filler on it that probably shouldn't have made it onto an album.

I remember getting the 30th Anniversary Edition CD for Christmas when it came out. Where have those 20 years gone???

You could say that about most double albums tbf.

I think Let it Be...Naked is still my favourite Beatles album, although Abbey Road and the White Album are definitely up there.

I'm not sure it would be the same though. I could do without Revolution 9 and used to think the same about Glass Onion, but now i quite like it.

Without the weird stuff i don't think it would be the same feel to it. There is a great Spotify enhanced version with all the new remastered versions and the Esher demos. Well worth a listen - ob la di sounds way better.

The Spotify enhanced version is superb. But if I WAS to strip down the White Album, Ob La Di wouldn't make the cut!

For me, it's

Sgt Pepper
Revolver
Abbey Road

Though I don't think they ever did a poor album. I'd recommend the 'Love' album btw - absolutely fantastic remixing from start to finish.

I still love Please Please Me over the rest. Loads of early simple catchy tunes.

I think I'm in the anti-Sgt Pepper minority. It's not a bad album but of all the studio albums they released from Rubber Soul onwards it is my least favourite.

I am finding music anniversaries and remastered releases being increasingly bad for making me feel old. This week's offering - I saw a tweet earlier this week saying Love Spreads by The Stone Roses was released 24 years ago :eek:ldman:

Been advised to check out Nils Frahm. Listening to All Melody right now. Any further recommendations?

Giving Jonsi's solo album a blast this morning. Much more chilled than most of Sigur Ros' output.

New Doves tour? Or better - new album?! This would make me deliriously happy.

I've never liked the idea of a cruise holiday but I could be persuaded by this...

"Setting sail on 8 August 2019 from Barcelona to Cagliari, Sardinia, the four-night Boaty Weekender will feature at least two performances by the Belle & Sebastian, plus sets across five stages by Camera Obscura, Django Django, Alvvays, Mogwai, the Buzzcocks, Japanese Breakfast, Kelly Lee Owens and Nilüfer Yanya, with more bands to be announced in the coming months."
