The Music Thread Strikes Back

First gig was Terrorvision at the Civic in 1994.

Favourite gig would be a toss up between the Smashing Pumpkins on the Mellon Collie tour in 1996 or the first time I saw Seater-Kinney live. Probably the Pumpkins though, they blew me away.

First gig was Iron Maiden at the Southampton Gaumont in 1984, Powerslave tour. We were driven down there by my mate's tiny Spanish mum who was going to hang around and pick us up afterwards. Incredibly embarrassing to have her go up to a gang of denim and leather grebos to ask what time it was going to finish.

Best gig was Bongwater at Newcastle Riverside in 1991.

Slayer supported by Nuclear Assault Hammersmith Odeon September 1988 on the South of Heaven tour.

I was back at the Hammy O two weeks later for Metallica on Damaged Justice.

I was at that Slayer gig. It was fantastic.

First: Eric Clapton at the NIA circa 1992.

Best: Roger Waters - The Wall at Wembley in 2013. Oh my.

Too many to mention!

First gig - Dio at the aston villa arena. Lock up the Wolves tour. Loved it.

Faves, oh my, I need to go through the photo albums with tickets in, however off the top of my head seeing James the first time in 1997 at the civic was mind blowing - they came on to come home, then sit down second. I stood there as sit down faded out thinking they'd blown it by playing their 2 biggest hits as openers. How wrong I was! Leftfield also at the civic (rhythm & stealth tour). Remember everything being bassy, and absolutely loving it. Didn't want the night to end. The first 2 times seeing Sigur Ros - again both at the civi, as both were extremely different experiences - one mellow and melancholy, the other heavy as fuck. And son of dave at the social in nottingham. Amazing how one man can make so many sounds!

Extreme envy to sycophantia for seeing bon scott era ac/dc. Saw them on the razors edge tour and they were superb.

No doubt I'll post here again with a "can't believe I forgot about..." style post.

I was at that Slayer gig. It was fantastic.

It was unbelievably LOUD as well!

Only two weeks or so until my final Slayer gig on their farewell tour at the NEC. Lamb of God, Anthrax and Obituary are the support.

I am taking Micro for his first (and sadly last) Slayer experience. At least he will get one opportunity to enjoy them.

I don't think many will be impressed but first proper gig, outside a couple shit bands at the local pub, was the smiths in '84. also saw them in '85 supported by James, who I saw a couple more times. meat is murder got quite a few boos, lol.

can't really name a favourite gig but treasure seeing Dead Can Dance in '87, Lisa Gerrard all in white like an angel, the Sisters, the Pixies '88 & '89 first supported by MBV, Husker Du, the Triffids amongst others. Orbital at Glastonbury '94 was an amazing experience too.

If you like the Beatles (and if you don't what's wrong with you?) 6music's show on the White Album is well worth a listen. I'm not usually one for in depth discussions on albums, but this is really good - mixed up with the whole album and demos.

I think my first gig was around '96 at the Civic. Suede (sans Bernard Butler unfortunately).

Played 5-a-sde football with Bernard Butler for a while in 2005/06 when living in North London. Lovely bloke who tended to get quite stuck in.

Favourite gig would be probably Anthrax in the tent at Sonisphere when the played the whole of Among the Living. Absolutely epic gig. Although I must actually give huge shout out for Kate Bush on the comeback gigs (insanely expensive to get tickets but thoroughly worth it just to see Squeeze's face and rack up the billion brownie points).

Best gig? Knebworth 1996 I suppose (Saturday show so it was The Bootleg Beatles, Ocean Colour Scene, The Chemical Brothers, Manics, The Prodigy and Oasis). Although Ash supported by Feeder in Hamburg in 2001 was good as well.

Fav = Squeeze. Best = probably Squeeze (haven't been to many)

First: The Beatles, Great Yarmouth, 1963 or 64. We were on holiday and I made Mum and Dad take me. They hated it.

Best: Bowie as Ziggy, Finsbury Park Astoria, early 70s. Roxy Music opened.

First: Pulp in 1996 (a few days after Cocker waved his arse at Michael Jackson and the gig was actually in doubt due to his arrest)
Best: Tough one...Loved REM at the Millenium Stadium (even if it was was something like 30d and they closed the roof so everyone just slowly cooked for 6 hours)

First Transvision Vamp Villa Leisure Centre '89

Best Oasis Granby Halls Leicester '95

Worst by choice Oasis Knebworth on the Sunday. Stupid queues, Liam off his face and fucking Kulashaker

Absolute worst - I went with the Mrs to see Darius.

My worst is probably John Squire who was one of the support acts for Oasis at Old Trafford cricket ground. He was fucking dreadful - I was quite looking forward to him as well.

Or Florence's bastard Machine ruining The Chain at Glastonbury one year. Hated them ever since.

I once went with a girl at uni to go and see Craig David. Fucking atrocious. Bin not long after that.

Kings of Leon were shit when I went to see them in London, 2004 I think.

The Killers touring Sam's Town was dreadful - saw them at the MEN Arena - I really really loathe that album and you could tell they couldn't be arsed during that gig.

Ash were dreadful when I saw them in Dublin (Part of a mini Festival with around 5 acts playing throughout the day)

I have 3 worsts;

1 The Used were fucking awful. It was a freebie, but remains the only gig I ever walked out of.

2 Primal Scream on their 1997 vanishing point tour. 2 issues with this. They played the same fucking song twice. I felt ripped off, same visuals and everything. crowd were arseholes, and the people I went with contained some tossers too, so overall, not a great night.

3 anything at the new birmingham academy, formerly the dome. horrendous venue. I'll not bother going there ever again.
