I went to see Marilyn Manson at the Civic last night. It was pretty good considering he spends the show in a wheelchair/on a crutch.

The highlight of my night though was walking past Miles Hunt as soon as we walked through the doors to the Civic. He may be old and not particularly famous but I still got starstruck :icon_lol:

Changed it up a bit from when I saw him a few years ago.

He spent most of the night either putting on or taking off coats and then spent a good chunk of time insulting a pretty un-responsive crowd, he played a few songs in between but he did appear to be massively off his tits throughout.

Yeah, I saw him last time he played here and I don't think he was totally with it then. He was better last night, although with his leg broken in 2 places I guess he was less likely to be off his tits! Considering it was a sell out show, I did think the crowd could have been a bit livelier though. Hardly any jumping around, they just sorta stood there throwing their arms in the air a bit (of course, I saw all this from the comfort of my seat in the balcony!)

You need to remember that you, and the rest of the audience are now OLD! :icon_wink:

There are certain shows I'm more likely to book seats nowadays. Back in the day, that was unheard of.

This is very true. I went with my older brother and when we sat down and saw how rammed it was in the standing bit I said to him that I had absolutely no desire to be in there with them! I'd have loved it in my younger days but now I'm more than happy to have a comfy seat and a great view.

At least Marilyn Manson is an old fart too. It's always worse when you are watching a band or an artist that is loads younger than you!

Tried to get Pearl Jam tickets this morning.

On sale via Ticketmaster at 11.00. Showing as sold out at 11.01 and Ticketmaster's sister company has them on sale for double the price at 11.02.

Fucking disgraceful.

I hate that too. ID that matches your ticket to get into venues and non-transferrable tickets can't come soon enough IMO.

It's one of the reasons I don't go to many gigs these days. Ticket sales are a disgrace.

It's the most obvious corporate scam in the world. They're not even trying to hide it. Fucking disgraceful.

I had exactly the same when i tried to get tickets to Flight of the Conchords. I never go to see anything "big" these days as it's a waste of time trying to get the tickets.

Though fair play to Nick Cave who had Twickets as his reseller for the recent tour. I couldn't make it but there were decent tickets on there at face value for most of his shows.

I get confused as to the level of demand.
I did manage to get peter kay tickets as a christmas present for my folks (hoping they're well enough to go!).
Pearl Jam only doing 2 uk dates, both in london isn't great.
Have to say I do prefer smaller venues where possible. But with almost everything now, you have to be ready as tickets go on sale, or its a huge risk.
Never used to be this bad. Used to be able to walk into mike lloyds megastore and select what you wanted.

As a means of blocking out the awful "songs from the musicals" radio the girls in the office have put on, I'm working through various internet Best of 2017 lists on Spotify.

Favourites so far:

Idles - Brutalism
Japanese Breakfast - Soft Sounds from Another Planet
War on Drugs - A Deeper Understanding
Richard Dawson - Peasant
Protomartyr - Relatives in Descent
Alvvays - Antisocialites
Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile – Lotta Sea Lice
Mount Eerie – A Crow Looked at Me
Julie Byrne - Not Even Happiness
Priests - Nothing Feels Natural

Seems I'm still mostly drawn to white people playing guitars!

I've had a variety of cd's on recently, whilst wrapping presents and so on, and they've built into quite a pile that tells me my recent listening habits. I intended to put them away and post a list of them on the ipod shuffle thread if I could be bothered to find it. When I reviewed the pile of cds, I was a little surprised at the choices.

great stuff - love the proto and priests albums. proto are lined up for a UK return next May too.

i can prob get a cd done and sent to you before new year if you guys want that. i don't remember anyone commenting on the summer one though - was it shite?

i had japanese breakfast on last year's, but a quick listen to the new album didn't entice me this year

I'm sure it wasn't shite - I just struggle to listen to CDs if I'm not in the car, and I rarely drive anywhere these days, and almost never with people who'd appreciate your music :icon_wink:

Out of those listed, I think the Idles one might be my fave. A bit like Sleaford Mods with tunes! The Mount Eerie one is a pretty awesome record too.
