The Music Thread Strikes Back

Really liking This Is The Kit at the moment.
They're wonderful and Kate is a spectacular person. I discovered them in 2011, before they were being physically distributed in the states, and Kate took the time to personally negotiate a price with me for their first album.

When I received it (direct from France, no less), I found she had included their newest album for free and even took the time to write me a note on a Parisian postcard. It was wonderful gift and spoke volumes about Kate as a person, I'd say.

Wow, that's pretty special! I only heard them quite recently but really like their most recent album.

Decided to do a Spotify Playlist of my favourite themes/scores from TV/film. Good stuff to work to innit.

Welcome to Lunar Industries by Clint Mansell (from the Moon soundtrack) has to be the opening track.

there's a vinyl picture disk of Clint's Black Mirror soundtrack just out.
he's come a long way since 'poppies say grrrr'. still love that though.

Son of Dave touring in november, with his new album called music for cop shows.

Check me out being down wiv da yoot! I've heard of some of them!

Bonobo have been around a while, and do make some interesting chilled stuff that is very textured.
Father John Misty has ben about a bit as well, and has a small cult following.
Jane Weaver has been hotly tipped. Both that album and her last have had a buzz about them. Her last album was Piccadilly records album of the year.
Thundercat did a decent set at glasto, and his album has had a fair bit of acclaim I believe.

Me too! Big fan of Songhoy Blues since their first appearance on Jools Holland a couple of years ago.

Arcade Fire's new album is out now. To Spotify! Hope it's an improvement on Reflektor.

And I'm disappointed in it - they're nowhere near as clever as they think they are TBH. It's a bit pretentious. The title track is great, but there's a lot of filler. I'd only rate half of the songs, two or three of which I'd say were any good.

Such a shame - I was a massive Arcade Fire fan but this and Reflektor are absolutely nowhere near the quality of their first 3 albums.

Went to Truck Festival last weekend (muddy... oh so muddy), and the best band I wasn't THAT aware of before I went and came away listening to was Vant. Really catchy album.

Give 'Vant - Parking Lot' a listen.

Any of you ever produced your own music at home before, using DAW's like Ableton, Logic etc?

Im giving it a go for the first time ever, and wondering about plug ins for synthesizers, drum kits, organs etc

The only home recording I ever did was a Tascam 4 track back in the 90s

I imagine shit has moved on a touch since then!

their first album is a classic, brilliant brilliant record. next two, a bit hit and miss - some great moments but no comparison to the first as a complete works. It's a shame they have to put something average out though who knows who it may appeal to. Record of the week on radio 6 apparently!
