Howe only takes the England job if he feels he's on thin ice at Newcastle. It'll be Carsley imo, I think he's been given the nod already, hence knocking back Ireland
Would be a big step up for Carsley , especially when you consider the quality of player that England now have compared to say 15 years ago . The expectation levels on him straight away would be high .
That was why I could not understand him turning down the Irish job . There is far less pressure there , he would be given time and could develop as an International Manager without the suffocating pressure that comes with being the England boss .
Carsley is well regarded , but has seen or experienced none of that pressure yet either at club or International level .
Potter/Howe have both seen it at club level - doesn't mean they can do a good job , but at least it's one box ticked that Carsley doesn't have .
Almost certainly but nothing official yet. There are several clubs who need very busy June sales or they are picking up starting deductions. Thankfully we aren't one of them.
It's been coming. Qualification in 2020 and 2022 were his high points, but both tournaments were a disappointment (especially 2022) and, in retrospect, the team was just being carried by an aging Bale and an aging Ramsey (both of whose performances in 2022 were awful).
Always a stop gap after the Giggs cuntery ruled him out forever. Worked okay with qualification early doors but the players that did the heavy lifting in that halycon period by our standards are all retired and so we are reverting to the mean, which is to be not very good.
We can get a better manager than Page, but I doubt results are suddenly going to have the big boys quaking in their boots.
It was fun for those Bale years, but it's gone now.
