The Manager Sacked/Hired Thread 2023/24

I think West Ham would definitely be a more attractive stepping stone than us. More money, bigger crowds, bigger profile. If Moyes does go, I'd be surprised if they don't have a look in our direction tbh

Yep I get that and I don't blame him blowing us out, he'd have no trust in them (I don't either).
Still don't think West Ham are a great 'project' for him. I suppose they're a bit more 'glamourous' than us and will undoubtedly spend a bit more money but not convinced they can be what he thinks he deserves.
If he thinks West Ham are below him, he won't work in the PL again

I bet there would be melts who'd clap him if he ever came back with another PL team.

I’d clap him when he entered and then stick the boot in after.

I don't hate him at all, he did a good job with us. Just he's a pain in the arse and has an over-inflated view of his status, and he was undoubtedly unprofessional to a degree towards the end here.

Wonder if he sits back and thinks about the evening he decided "you know what. Wolves is a great job but I need to stay at QPR and repay them for giving me the opportunity"
The one time in 18 months he showed any loyalty and its smacked him right in the face

The way things have gone for him, I imagine he would have been found out eventually no matter what. Just thank Christ he wasn't here when it happened.

Good job, Hobbsy?

Who'd have thought that some chancer with 14 games under his belt (at that time) could have gone either way, I was so happy when he turned us down and remain eternally grateful to him

Roll back to when he was at QPR - His rep was sky high. Seen as the man that carried Stevie G & mega respect from players (Emi Martinez properly bigging him up in interviews). First job and was doing a pretty good with a poor QPR team (see their record before and since Beale). As we briefly moved to the decision to do it the Hobbs way, it was clear why we went for him.

His collapse since putting his loyalty in the bin has been impressive though. Probably suggests he should go back to just being a coach/assistant.

His QPR team were over-performing mind. He was doing OK but they weren’t a play off standard team under him.

He definitely believed the hype from what I have heard. Back to academy coaching for him?

Dropping "I'm a loyal guy" two weeks (don't correct me) before ghosting on your first job for "greener" pastures is a pretty good way to undermine the whole authority figure thing.

Why listen to a guy like that?

It's probably not all his fault (you can't help how you come across naturally to an extent) but he's got a real McGhee style way of talking that automatically rubs a lot of people up the wrong way, especially if results aren't very good.

Sunderland wasn't a great one to walk into. Most of their fans didn't want to sack Mowbray and they don't really have the quality for top six either, the owners seem to be going in heavily on cheap young players which is fine but won't produce quick results (which they also seem to want).

The jury on Hobbs is still out massively, there have been a number of signs that his judgement isn't what some like to make out it is.

Hobbs helping bring in the likes of Mario and Dawson was absolutely crucial to keeping us up last year tbf.

He also (belatedly) seems to have got the current manager right. Feels harsh to say "jury is still out", he might screw up from here but nobody in his job bats a thousand.

Whoever it was who thought Lingard was a good idea in September 2023 needs a clip round the ear.
