The Manager Sacked/Hired Thread 2020/21

Poch would, at the very minimum implement a structure and a style of play on Utd.
He's streets ahead of Ole.

Better than OGS, sure, but streets? I'm not convinced of that at all.

I would say without a doubt that applies. I'm not sure even Newcastle or Fulham would swap their current manager for Ole. One has Steve Bruce and one has a guy with a record that is currently only "bettered" by Jan Siewert for anyone who's managed 10+ PL games as permanent boss.

As and when he gets sacked he will not get another gig at any top club ever again, he's there purely because he scored an important goal over 20 years ago.

Going back to when Utd fired Jose. Just imagine that the coaches of every PL team were in a meeting together where a bomb goes off and kills them all. Twenty PL teams looking for a new manager and OGS applies to every single club.

Nineteen clubs would not have put him a a short list, given him an interview, or even said thanks but no thanks. One club - the biggest one of all - just gave him the job without looking at anyone else. Incredible.

It's more that I don't think very highly of Poch than that I think highly of OGS.

Wally was a short term fix at the time but due to a run of good results their board felt (wrongly) compelled to give him the job long term. He is so far out of his depth running the club, he looks like a little boy who won a competition to be United manager for a day. Refusing to park in the manager's spot because it's Sir Alex's?

Absolutely no other top flight club would give him a gig, a bit like Southgate in fact

It's a bit silly isn't it. Mourinho got sacked and the names I saw mentioned in the media apart from Poch were ex-United players: Solskjaer, Laurent Blanc, there were even people talking about having Steve Bruce as the caretaker.

Despite a season of 'progress' Man United got 66 points which is the exact same as the year before, only this time it got them 3rd rather than 6th. Normally that would be quite a few points off top 4. Louis van Gaal also got 66 points and got sacked (despite winning a trophy) - they got 64 in the Moyes season! You have to wonder where they would be without all those penalties.

there were even people talking about having Steve Bruce as the caretaker.

I think this was Paul Ince and Richard Keys, tbf :icon_lol:

Their tactics are so shit. You've got a back four which is in some way compromised in every position, in front of a keeper who's not been any good for years and promotes zero confidence, all protected by a solitary ancient DM who runs like a pensioner while Jogba and Penandes do their own largely ineffectual thing. Then a front three who are just expected to magic something out of nowhere.

It's like how a bad PE teacher would set a team up.

Poch was supposed to have taken over in the Summer of 2019 after OGS had caretaken for 6 months, but that freak run of wins at the start and the fan pressure that came with it meant they gave him the job. Very Colin Lee

Gerhard Struber has left Barnsley to go to New York Red Bulls.

Dull fact. Adam Murray who is temporarily in charge also manages his sons u13 side in the Derby league

Lamouchi sacked by Forest.

Never recovered from that Barnsley game. Difficult in any condition, with a 6 week break almost impossible. It's the most spectacular blow up over one game I can think of

I think he had to go, it was a catastrophe, they gave him the chance to turn it around and they've lost every game.

But still, it's the graveyard of all graveyards. 27 managers since 1999 (including caretakers). Billy Davies did a full season in 2010/11 and Lamouchi was the next to achieve that last season.

Hughton appointed.

Chris Hughton in. Good appointment if it works out, but that club is so crazy it can never offer any stability.

Problem with Hughton is you basically need to bin him as soon as you go up, and we all know that never happens.

I think that they would gladly take that at this stage in fairness!
