The Live Match Discussion Thread: 2019/2020

At least that one was a bit more obvious rather than being a stud/armpit.

Think Chelsea have been robbed a bit here. Maguire should have been off for sure and IMO that goal should have stood to make it 1-1

Kind of did themselves in a bit, I think if they'd started Giroud (who for some reason appears to be about as in favour with them as German Phil is here) then it'd be irrelevant as he'd have put away one or two of the chances that Clownshoes massacred.

But yeah luck has not been with them today.

True

I wonder how long (if it hasn't started already) it will take for Chelsea fans to decide they don't like the new youthful Chelsea. I'm not entirely convinced by Lampard at all.

They really haven't been very good at home this season. But have been decent away from home. Odd one to be sure.

I like him but he's carrying too much inherited rubbish.

No serious keeper (Kepa is one of the worst VFM signings in the history of the game), neither Zouma nor Christensen are top level (in fact Rüdiger probably isn't either), Willian and Pedro are both way past their best as is Azpilicueta, Alonso isn't a LB, lacking a real top end striker - Abraham has done better than I thought in terms of returns but I still have doubts.

Big window coming up, I like Ziyech. I was amazed they signed literally no-one in January.

Really bad round of fixtures as far as we're concerned. Literally everyone around us won, from Burnley all the way up to Spurs.

Depends on what you think is realistic with regard to where we should be.

Also you look at four of our next five games and we actually should win all of those. Spurs away being the outlier and no-one will stick that down as a cast iron loss. But we don't do these kind of runs that sling you up the table for one reason or another.

The thing is as its so tight we can't afford to drop silly points from now on in. Chelsea are dogshit at home but have more home points than us. Draws are killing us. Three points for a win beats two draws everyday. We really do need to hit a run of results. We aren't playing badly at all just not getting results.

6th-8th is where I think we should be in our current trajectory after only one and two third seasons back in the Prem. We've done incredibly well qualifying for Europe and then not letting that affect our league position - Well mostly. I reckon we'd be properly challenging for 4th without it to contend with as well.

I'm happy with where we are given the remaining fixtures to come. I'd even argue we were better when we were playing twice a week. Seemed to keep us in a groove with no time to overthink games.

We can afford whatever as we aren't going down and assuming we don't get battered on Thursday, the league isn't even our priority.

Think Lampard has done a solid job at Chelsea so far, lot of the bigger names probably on their way down now but none of the youngsters really letting him down, apart from maybe Hudson-Odoi though I've never seen why people got so excited about him. I think they play some of the nicest football in the league when they get their tails up, even just now that move right at the end of the game was lovely, but they're flaky as fuck at times. Guess you have to expect a bit of that with some of the younger lads playing so often and their lack of decent defenders or keeper not going to help there either.

Be interesting to see how they build on it next season if they add a few more in the summer along with Ziyech. Need at least one solid centre half to build a defence around.

There's no reason we can't finish in the Europa places again, as well as a decent run in the knockouts.

One premium signing there and Tomori would be the way I'd go.

Loftus-Cheek has been a big miss this season. Back end of last campaign he was starting to consistently provide end product along with all the natural talent, then they played him in that nonsense friendly (before a bloody European final) and he's had close to a year out.

We can, of course.

I just don't go along with the "can't afford this", "must get this" mindset. The league kind of looks after itself. If people want to get giddy and dream of Champions League football...well fine, but I'm not going down that road.

Don't buy Maguire's explanation there in a million years :icon_lol:

I can buy Maguires explanation, but it still should have been a red.

Hmm not sure I buy that one you can role out the way instead of sticking your foot in someone’s crutch.

On a side note, I really enjoyed the debate/discussion between Roy Keane & Carragher last night when they were selecting their combined Liverpool 2020/Man Utd 1999 sides.

It was great TV. Keane's face when Carragher doesn't pick Giggs is still etched in my mind hahaha

Shit defending on the corner but think there was a shit decision on a throw in that preceded it.

I do like Saul. Should be a first choice for Spain in my book.
