The Live Match Discussion Thread: 2019/2020

That is nonsense. The reason Azpiliceuta ends up pushing the United player is because one has pushed him first??!!

Looks a poor decision by VAR for me, think Azpilicueta is pushed by Fred before he clattered into Williams.

I think it's a nudge by Fred for sure but Azpi doesn't need to have both of his hands out like that and pile right through the back of him. Fair enough I would say.

Shocking from VAR clear shove on Azpilicueta by Fred into Williams. VAR takes 3 minutes to look into microscopic offsides and then disallows that after 30 second's when a second angle clearly shows the initial push by Fred.

But surely if VAR spots the initial push by Fred then that is a foul and a penalty to Chelsea?

Not enough for a pen IMO/IMV.

I won't get much support for that though!

Should be a penalty to United there too, Pedro still holding him as they enter the box.

I can see why they've disallowed it but they barely looked at it before ruling it out. Also Christensen was clearly hit in the face by Martial's arm but VAR didn't even look at it.

Now the man who should have been sent off makes it 0-2.

Initial shove by Fred, Azpilcueta doesn’t need to put his hands out but it’s very subjective so not enough to overturn the goal for me.

You are watching it, I am not. My view though is that IF the push from Azpilicueta allowed Chelsea to score the goal, and VAR are looking at that, and then it is clear that the push only occurs BECAUSE of the nudge by Fred, surely the right decision (if the Fred push is not enough to give a penalty) is to ignore both and allow the on field decision of goal?

VAR is blunderful.

Man marking torn a new one. If that goal goes in in zonal everyone’s tearing it apart

Nah, I don't think it causes him to plough right through Williams. Wasn't like he was propelled through the air and he genuinely shoves the kid, it's not just momentum.

Agree with Jack though that it warranted a closer look.

Finally another team getting done for one of those. Feel a bit for Chelsea though.

Here we go again!

Great goal from Giroud.

VAR get the slide rule out and his foots offside

At least that one was a bit more obvious rather than being a stud/armpit.

Think Chelsea have been robbed a bit here. Maguire should have been off for sure and IMO that goal should have stood to make it 1-1

Gary Neville happy with VAR. Says it’s consistent for everyone (even if it’s wrong)
