The January 2025 Transfer Thread

I know Pereira wants a more physical CM and obviously we have to give him a chance but 20m seems quite pricey for a relative unknown. Hoping Kenny has it right and it's more 12m with add ons.

What went wrong with the bids for the young Ukrainian midfielder?

In his prime FFS. If a Championship club signed this guy for €5M it wouldn't even register. Birmingham City have midfielders in their prime with better careers and they're in League 1.
I guess we’ll find out, but I stand by what I said. Also seems pretty unfair to just write him off completely out of hand.

Won't write him off out of hand but the comments from fans of his current team haven't been that encouraging and that's not a good sign when he's plying his trade in a weaker league.

In theory I'm not unhappy with somebody that's an improvement on the XI for 5 months and then on the bench come the Summer. We do need someone now, and shouldn't eschew short term improvements just because they're not ideal for longer term imo. Reducing the drop offs from first eleven to bench players is something we need to do

I need to make Matt Hobbs understand that £20m is not OK for this profile of footballer

Oh absolutely. I should have included a disclaimer that I’ve formed an opinion from 30 minutes extensive research while necking a coffee this morning. I did have a laugh at his YouTube highlights though. About 20 clips in a row of people passing the ball in to him.

We might have found an absolute gem & he may be unbelievable, but a relatively unknown 28 year old with a few caps for Zimbabwe, you’ll have to forgive my cynicism.

My personal opinion is we’ve missed out on all our key targets (surprise surprise) and are now getting a few bodies in through the door to appease Vitor & the fans.
How big was the coffee?!

I've got no problem writing him off tbh. I don't think it's that big of a leap to predict that we won't get back a third of what we're paying for him. Nothing about him to suggest he'd be a good signing for a mid table Championship side let alone a Premier League club.

Fucking hell, the club can do fucking nothing right.

We lose out to Spurs on a Player who was due to have a medical yesterday, having been told he was not available 1st part of January.

Cue much wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth, as we have no other targets wont sign any one they are all fucking useless...

Wolves then make moves for other targets lower down on the list.

Cue much gnashing of teeth, players are fucking shit.

We need players to strengthen the squad it looks like the club has identfied players and are trying to get them in.

Neither potential signing suggests they're going to come in and make an immediate difference.

We need a CB who can hit the ground running.

Its the only position where he needs to make an immediate impact. Unless of Strand, is out of the picture for a while.

Ever thought of a job with the E&S mate?

Most of us wrote off GON when he joined and that worked out OK 😅

Like I said, we're way past 'benefit of the doubt' for our custodians

Everyone we sign needs to make an impact over the next four months FFS or they'll be making an impact v Preston and Wrexham
Can I just shock you? Even if we didn't sign anyone else I think we'd be ok. No higher than 17th but I think as it stands we're better than the teams below us

Recency bias might be colouring my thoughts, but that's where I currently am

It's a fair position and I don't totally disagree. Even Doc-Agba-Toti looked much stronger than the previous incarnation, and if Cunha is settled for the rest of this season that's a big advantage over our rivals.

Still too soon to be complacent though, and while the window is open out custodians should be looking to strengthen so it's not a flip of a coin if we retain our status
