That's some list of weaknesses. They make it sound like he's like some sort of defensive number ten, which is just bleugh.
 
Seems very good in the air in both boxes, something we really lack.

I obviously know nothing about this guy, I don't like the look of the comments from the French fans about him. We could do with signing a central midfielder but it needs to be someone of real quality who offers something different and can actually get into the team - If Bellegarde's performance in that role wasn't a one off we have him André and Joao Gomes with Traore surely not far away.
 
It would feel wrong of me to slam the club for making a signing or 2 today and label it a panic after spending a lot of time saying we have no plan outside of main targets and would make no more signings after the Danso fun and games
Like most, I generally don't know a lot, if anything, about players we are linked with.
This Marshall dude may well be the Dave Edwards for the next generation but zero clue until he kicks a ball for us.
For CM we have been linked with a very certain type so he was one on our list rather than Hobbs sending Del Wop a desperate message to ask for a FM scouting update. He is obviously lower down ok our targets but we were generally convinced we had no list...small progress there for us.

I mean you could say that it reflects positively on the club that there are multiple names and it's not just one from one; but then we have to remember that we're now looking at Matt Hobbs' third choice footballer, which isn't an endorsement

Numerous ways to look at it really, just I have spent days saying they are shit and useless and have no plans in place.

Obviously I will revisit my stance quickly if it looks like we have signed a proper dud.

also need a CB arriving today so you might get mixed messages from me...
 
What bothers me most is that this signing would be a sticking plaster addition at best with precious little scope for a profit to be made in the future either. Theres a good chance that J Gomes, Cunha and Ait Nouri will be gone in the summer with nothing in the way of replacements that I can see that will be able to fill those holes. You are then left with a game of who can Mendes bring in during the next window to keep us competitive. Its a continuation of the depletion of the quality of the squad.

In theory I'm not unhappy with somebody that's an improvement on the XI for 5 months and then on the bench come the Summer. We do need someone now, and shouldn't eschew short term improvements just because they're not ideal for longer term imo. Reducing the drop offs from first eleven to bench players is something we need to do

Spot on. Not every signing can be Cunha quality, but there's nothing to be gained from filling the squad with even more mediocrity.

And that's what it looks like now we're clearly scrabbling around trying to get fourth choice players over the line in the last 14 hours of the window.

If we hadn't been burned innumerable times by Shi and whoever his current patsy is, I'd be more inclined to give the benefit of the doubt
