The January 2025 Transfer Thread

Anybody can inquire about a player, anybody can bid to low.
Earning your money is getting deals done. Yes it’s hard, but like most jobs that pay well it’s hard work.
Whilst it makes them look willing it makes them look a bit rubbish at the same time.

Botman was always way out of our league and way higher ability and profile to Danso.

We 'missed out' on Ruben Dias and Joao Cancelo by that token.
I'm not sure Dias and Cancelo had actually agreed terms with us though?

And anyway, it's all relative. We managed to get high profile players in back in that period. Batman would have signed for us.

Edit: Ha, I'm leaving that in 🦇

The Dias one was a possible as Mendes was leading the way on making the player leave. He would have been a Nunes style signing though.
Issue was Benfica didn't play to the Mendes tune and the only way to get him was to pay his buy out clause (€75m). To do that you had to make it in 1 payment and genuinely we couldn't due to FFP. So that ended that one.
Cancelo was during the period where Fosun/Jeff were being wildly positive and ambitious. We asked, were happy to pay £50m but lost him to Juve but don't think he ever spoke to us.

The above just makes you so annoyed though. We have gone from chasing Europe and trying to sign players that will improve a squad and get you excited to being happy to stay up and refusing to out bid Ipswich for a shit defender from the Championship.....and they charge you more to watch Doyle and Bellegarde than they did when we had Neves and Moutinho.

(Fucks sake, there is a reason I barely type serious stuff on here...just annoyed myself at typing that)

On a similar note (players we missed out on)

Every time I see Dani Olmo I get sad.

One for Nuno innit. Loyal to his man Jorge so we got Danny P instead.

Can live with that, managers choice etc etc. I can live with us being wildly optimistic and chasing players above our grade as sometimes they come off....just hard to accept where we have now positioned ourselves really.

I'd love to know what we've been doing for the last 4-6 weeks
We always make out that we're ready to get stuff done early at the start of windows. That we have our ducks lined up behind closed doors months in advance. The reality is we have a mad trolley dash in the last couple of days, often resulting in us missing out and then saying "we tried". If we sign a FIRST TEAM READY centre back, centre mid, winger AND forward before the end of the deadline, I'll eat my hat.

That tweet is from the Mail though, so I'd take that with a pinch of salt.

Wolves face competition from Stade Rennais for centre-back Kevin Danso.

One source has told Sky Sports News that another team has agreed the club-to-club deal with Lens.

Lens want a £25m (€30m) package: £21m (€25m) up front plus £4m (€5m) in add-ons.

Stade Rennais are below Lens in the table but can pay bigger wages.

Wolves are believed to be prepared to pay Danso's wage request but they have not yet agreed terms with Lens.

So there are the details of what we are pissing about over. €8m plus an extra €5m in bonuses. Which seems pretty fair enough given that they accepted a €25m bid from Roma last summer for him.

If we end up standing our ground for a few million in what is an extremely key position for us and our chances of survival then the fans are gonna be extremely pissed off. Especially when they get fleeced for exactly this sort of money in ticket prices.

Yes they accepted 25m euro last summer, but it is the January window, he's had a good season so far and they would rather not sell him at all.

Just pay up the asking price and the bonuses will depend on what we achieve (so probably won't ever be paid!) but avoiding relegation may be one of a number and that has to be the target right now

What annoys me is that I genuinely have no idea if Kevin Danso is any good. Never seen him play. What I DO know is that if we don't sign anyone, the current defensive unit is not good enough, and we will be relegated unless we strengthen.

Shows what a shit show we currently are when I just want someone - ANYONE - to come in and try and improve us.
