The January 2025 Transfer Thread

I doubt we were even in on that one to be honest.
We know how the rumours work for us and if a degree of truth the usual crowd from our side will chip in.

This one is either
A) Someone throwing names around the get some hits
B) Agent work to kick other clubs up the ass. In this case "stop fucking around Villa, give Chelsea what they want or he is going elsewhere"

At this point we are just getting annoyed at noise.

We all know how we are working - All in on Danso until 12pm on Feb 3rd and then wild panic followed by "no one was available"

Progress though, last January we wouldn't pay an extra million for a forward because the wrong agent asked for it and this one we are trying to throw £20m+ around.

They’ve sold Carlos haven’t they and Mings got injured again at the weekend. Digne was playing centre back so I’m assuming he’ll play plenty for them.
Yeah just seen they have some issues at CB. Didn’t realise that. Spurs desperate for a left sided defender as well. I don’t think we’ll sign anyone now.

I mean it's an extra 3 million but if he helps us stay up you get an extra 100 million.

Jeff Shi gotta Jeff Shi, though.

…..but in the 50% chance that we go down will there be relegation clauses? If I’m Danso then I wouldn’t sign up to them.

Let's see.

At this moment in time it's just the stupid way clubs work in action. For some reason they get told a figure, then bid lower than it and are surprised...then they go back with a slightly higher bid and that is rejected before finally offering what was asked. Guess to try and unsettle a player and hope they will help force a move through.

I know recent history tells us we will say €22m or no deal, to which Lens will say "yep, nice talking with you all the best for the future"

A small chance we may be surprised. Although I am expecting a tweet that we have €25m but that includes €3m if we win the PL...

Doesn't seem much other interest in Danso from other clubs so maybe we're hoping we can get him on the cheap, trouble is we don't have the time to fuck about.
I fucking hate transfer windows, much prefer the 'old' system, don't care if that makes me a gammon.
Apparently Rennes are looking at Danso too and Roma had to give up their bid for him last summer due a reputed heart murmer.
The player wants away from Lens so even though they don't want to sell it looks likely he's leaving.

He's not insured to play in Italy and I can't imagine he wants to stay in France. Jeff just needs to pay up.

You'd expect most players would like to play in the Premier league. I know we're not the most attractive team atm but you'd think it would at least get him noticed. I think Rennes are struggling anyway.

If he comes to the PL and does well he’ll be in a great position to move to a club that probably pays one player more than the entire Lens team, especially as he’s home grown.

Even with a what we paid for him release clause, it doesn’t seem that there’s many takers now at £25m.
I think there's a fair amount in this. I don't think I've ever heard of a clause that's less than you paid,. There's not a stampede of clubs now, so does a player with 4 months experience on a relegated team even hold their value, particularly if they are defender? If we sold him and presumably given salary we'd have to it'd likely be at a loss, making the clause irrelevant, so just put it in.

Given that he's been one of the best CBs in France this season, I'd be disappointed if we didn't make his signing a priority and eventually stumped up the extra €3m.
