Has every other club made all of their signings by the first game?
I would think most have.

Newcastle, Palace, Liverpool, Brighton, Villa, Bournemouth, Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea have all improved their squads.

We've signed Matt Doherty and sold Ruben Neves

Run down your employer in public and you’ll find yourself in hot water in any industry.
Regardless of whether you think it’s right or wrong the main thing we can all agree on is the outlook isn’t a good one. Reading between the lines it looks a bit like Lop covering himself if form is poor early on and he can say “told you so” and if he starts well he can point how hard he’s working in restricted circumstances.
Basically makes him more employable after his time here.
What it isn’t good for is trying to bring new players in how do you attract players with this circling in the background. Basically saying don’t bother coming because it’s mediocre or you can come but I won’t be here much longer.
If I had a potential offer on the table and saw that yesterday I’d feel more reluctant to join especially if I could get a deal elsewhere.

I would think most have.
So we’ll be the only club to sign anyone after the first game? The general concensus is that Fosun are cashing in and not spending anything, that absolutely has to be judged by the end of the window, not the first game. That’s just moving the goalposts.

It was not behind the clubs back, Media Team were there
You reckon?

It looked to me like Balague set up his own camera and mics. The quality was shocking and the little intro video at the start looked like something knocked up on powerpoint by me in a few minutes. I suspect he went rogue and arranged it directly with Balague to get his message out/maybe to try and force Fosun's hand in to doing something.

The execution of it was shite, though. As Balague kept trying to stir the pot and Lop was having none of it. You'd have thought they'd at least go over a few things beforehand but it almost looked like Julen was ushered in to a room straight after training and was sat down and asked questions with no prep.

The whole situation is a car crash and no one comes out of it well.

Of course we won't be the only club to sign anybody (although we might be the only club who doesn't)

But we will be one of the only clubs not to sign anybody to improve their squad.

I'm not moving the goalposts at all I'm asking why not at the start of the season. That's when I think it's best to judge personally.

If we were, that completely depends on who we'd be selling to. I know some people think are the WORST owners in the world EVER but that really isn't the case.
Also club sales take bloody forever so even they were getting rid (I don't think they are, we get this chatter all the time) it wouldn't impact on anything for some time to come.

Does anyone have easy access to last 2/3 years accounts? I've had a look at the transfer net spend (transfermarkt) over the last five years but it doesn't give the whole picture :-

23/24..................................23/22............................................22/21...............................21/20..................................... 20/19.......................................Total
€37.45m€-114.24m€-5.80m€-8.39m€-92.60m€-183.58m

No secret at all that since promotion Fosun have wanted to find someone willing to take a minority stake in the club (and to pump money in).

But everything about what's happening does suggest that we're back again to the holding pattern you'd expect before a full sale. The strange, inconsistent splurges of last summer ("we have to make the most of the current squad" [lose a few early games, Shi goes and buys Nunes) and January (panic buying across multiple positions, including overspend on players like Cunha) make sense if the only really consistent "plan" since 2020 has been "keep the club's value high so we can flip it for a profit".

Transfermkt isn't accurate in any shape or form.

Spending other people's money is easy, especially when you have full control.

It is no wonder they couldn't find anybody to invest when they wanted to retain full control.

Particularly when interested investors would look at the behaviour of the club in terms of overall turnover and losses and the big ticket item sales that are worth less now than when they purchased them, some at huge losses. Why would any prospective investor have faith in that management team?

Palace, you sure?

Signed Lerma to replace outgoing CMs in McArthur and Milivojevic, but lost Zaha for free who has been their main (sometimes only) goal threat for years. Nothing else, and Olise is out injured for months now too.

They did improve their squad with Lerma which was my point.

It sounds to me like the club are preparing for a sale?
By selling all your assets first ? Unless they are going to sell the club with the cash still in the bank (doubtful), none of this makes sense, if it were a case of increasing cashflow, selling to buy, liquifying assets etc why turn down the Kilman sale?
