The Golf Thread

Ive been watching the Masters every year since the 90s. I’ve still no idea what the 17th hole actually looks like. Just watching a replay of that chip and it looked nothing like I imagined. The most TV resistant bit of sports in the world?!

17 is a bonkers green, but it used to be much more tv friendly when the Eisenhower tree was there for the drive. That blew down around twenty years ago and the hole has not a lot to define it now.

I still had no idea what was what when the tree was there. The footage of the green just now looked nothing like I imagined, even though I ve been looking at it for decades.

I have been watching since Jack Nicklaus won in 1986 and 17 is (along with 14) the hole on the back nine I can picture in my head the least.

And then holes 3-7 are less familiar as apart from the drives on the first there never used to be a great deal of front nine coverage, because Augusta committee is Augusta Committee and love to be a bit quirky with what coverage they allow.

This Rory collapse will need studying. Hopefully Arteta can beat it.
Lost count of the number of times I’ve watched Rory choke on the final day of a major. This year is something else though!

I had a small bet on Rose (each way so should win something unless he completely capitulates) but would love him to get across the line.

Have you? If so you must only be able to count to 2 or 3 then.

Feels like every time I sit down to watch golf (which is not as much as I’d like these days!) he’s always in the mix and then tails off. Just how it feels to me.

No need to be a complete and utter arse about it 😉

He has a history of having 1 bad round a major, not normally the last one though. The only choke as I'd define it was the Masters in 2012, even today isn't a final round choke - he's level par as I type, it's the 3rd round that did it if he fails to win. Others he's been in contention, but just beaten by the better man

Yep. As I say, it’s just how it feels whenever I watch.

Looks likely to birdie 12 too. His to lose now with the others running out of holes!

Just seen that Li shot a 10 on one of the par 5’s on the back nine. He was right up there earlier in the day.

Rory has held it together really well - fair play to him. Joins Nicklaus, Faldo & Woods on the list of back to back winners.

There was a point, maybe 3-4 hours ago where it looked as if someone like Scheffler was going to power through and leave the others behind but it never quite happened.
